I can get by in Spanish, and I know my name in one flavour of Chinese (I can't remember which) my German got me through in Germany and Eastern Europe. I used to be able to offer a basic bit of Turkish too. My French is reasonable, but I found in France, they were ignorant, and the easiest way to be understood was to speak really bad French, and they'd show off by saying 'there's no need, I speak English'.

 

I would go to the shops and ask for something in French but instead of just giving me it they would try a bit of chat with me but I didnt have a clue what they were talking about.

 

I didny sample any French girls. It's not the thing to do on yer honeymoon.

Countries don't have languages, only people, and as people should be free to come hither and go thither as they please, so they shouldn't be asked to give up a fundamental aspect of their culture. Frankly, Spanish people should stop complaining and embrace the beautiful diversity that the Gammonians bring to "their" country
