Morning all. Bright and sunny again after yesterday when we didn't see the sun at all. Quite a lot of comment about the ski centres being shut due to this virus. Over time I have met quite a few Brits who came over to work the season in the chalets and bars, and all said it was very hard work and poorly paid, but some enjoyed meeting the folk who were there. There seems to be quite a difference between the very up market, and cheap package offers for the way that the staff are treated, with the expensive end more likely to have people returning to work there several years. It is unlikely that they will be open until mid-January, if then. Have a good day whatever you will be doing.
I feel cheated. There was thundersnow in Edinburgh and Fife this morning, as well as the ordinary variety in Glasgow. All we have here is a little bit of drizzle.
Morning all. Grey and breezy and despite the wind coming from the south it doesn't feel very warm outside. It is the time of year when I must start on the Christmas cards. I don't mind writing the cards, but putting all those lengthy addresses on is a pain. Postcodes that I have to look up and Angleterre for all those destined for the UK takes a while. This year I have made matters worse by printing off the stamps that will have to be glued on. Still looking at my list I am pleased to say that everyone has survived a turgid year. Have a good day whatever you must do.
Hola a todos, Getting a bit colder here in the semi-desert zone of "El Bajio" as the cold fronts sporadically run from NW to SW bringing a spot of rain. Not English cold, just the temperature drops a lot at night, only ever seen a frost twice in my 11 years here though. However, houses here aren't built for the cold as it is hot most of the year. All tiled, no double glazing and no insulation, just as well or we'd die in the Spring and Summer. Anyways, nice to have a bit of wine and enjoy the tele whilst reading up on today's games. Christmas is not too far away, and that means the countdown to the coast is not too far behind either. Enjoy the rest of the weekend y'all.
Morning all. Wet and miserable outside, so will continue with the Christmas cards. Seeing as we will be unlikely to see many of our French friends it means relying on the post rather than handing them over. Reports in the paper of an Englishman who went out to watch the hunt and finished up getting shot and killed. The very bright gear that they wear these days has cut down on the number of accidents, but I guess he wasn't that visible. Have a good day and stay safe.
Past midday, so afternoon all. Had an early start to the day as the car had to be taken to the garage 25 kms away for a 9.00 am start on putting new clutch plates in. I have watched the young man who now is in charge since he first went there on work experience. In his early days he was very quiet and shy, but he had a good teacher in Michel who has now retired, and he has become very competent. The business is up for sale which is a great shame as their prices were very fair, and all of the people who have worked there have been very helpful. Have a good day.
do you know..i only saw happy people..... and scrolling down again just now.... I saw something completely different!!
Congratulations to this man, Kevin Sinfield who has just finished 7 marathons in 7 days raising over a £1M for the Motor Neurone Disease Association. It really is a horrible thing to see, a friend in England died from it in her early 30's leaving two small daughters. For some reason there doesn't seem to have been the awareness about it until recently, yet it seems that each year we hear about more cases. please log in to view this image
I have been supporting Kevin .... (He is an ex student from my Univ and we sponsored Leeds Rhinos for a while,,, so I got to see him play etc....) brilliant job done in contiuniung to raise awareness of ths terrible illness
Morning all. Overcast and chilly in rural France this morning. Woke up with what seemed like a mouthful of salt. We had some very nice salmon last night and it must have been very salty. I cannot remember when it started, but Mme was advised to have a salt free diet, and we have never had a great deal of it since. When I was young you used to buy it in a big block, and break it up yourself into a large earthenware pot. I wonder when that stopped for ready prepared salt in a box or jar? Life has so many questions that need an answer. Have a good day whatever you must do.
I frequently get that, as well as in my nostrils. Over the years I've come to accept that it's a sign there's a cold or flu bug around, and my body's defences are kicking in. It happens to my oldest son too, but no-one else in the family - they always catch whatever bug is in the air whilst we don't.
Morning all. Sunshine and showers today and not very warm. Noticed an all electric Smart car yesterday tethered to a charging point. It really is the strangest creation that the company have come up with todate. Wide wheel base, but a tiny cockpit perched on top. It looks as though someone got fed up with getting wet on their quad bike, and put a cover over it. I didn't realize that they are made in France up on the border with Germany, and now that Ineos will be sharing the site with them production will continue, saving the possible loss of 1,300 jobs. Decided I don't want one as the ability to carry DIY or gardening materials is hopeless, and despite my willingness to try something different that is one step too far. Have a good day whatever you must do.
Morning all. Grey and damp, and only a degree or two warmer than yesterday. Collected my car from the garage yesterday afternoon, a day later than expected. He had had trouble doing it and it took much longer than he had estimated. Still he had given me an estimate in writing which I had agreed to, so that was the price he was obliged to charge. Still plenty of GB registered cars around. I wonder if they are tourists, second home owners, or people who are resident but haven't got round to re-registering their cars yet. The news is saying that from the 1st January they will no longer be able to come over because of the virus, so I will see if the numbers drop. Have a good day whatever you have planned.
A non-commercial, more religious Christmas awaits here. A secret santa involving all the family, baby jesus rocked onto a navitity set, one giant Piñata for the kids - all on the 24th at night. The 25th is like boxing day here. Then that's all done I can bugger off to the coast until coming back for NY with the wife as she hasn´t got time off. Hope every one is well.
