Partey bottling the midfield battle against Hojbjerg was a small highlight of that. Can’t say I blame him to be honest, was always only gonna be one winner there.
Similar to the City game but with the halves reversed. A win against Arsenal is never to be sniffed at and 3 cleansheets in a row, with City, Chelsea and Arsenal as the opposition is great too. If I'm honest, I didn't enjoy watching the games though. It's just not for me this type of football. We're an expensive Burnley/West Brom/Stoke up against these sides. That said, I do think there's a very unorthodox nature to this season and I do understand that every side is fighting a significant force outside of the battles between 2 sides on the pitch and we're managing it better than anyone else so far.
Pts + NLD win = job done. If Jose is playing this way to conserve squad legs until the PL halfway point, then credit to him. As things stand, if you added a reasonable degree of CM pressing/control, then the opposition will get obliterated,
Would you rather win a trophy playing like this, or just have great football like under Poch but no silverware?
Playing this way has instilled defensive discipline that was much needed. The team seem to have bought in to the style of play and I can personally cope with this if it gets us across the line in those must-win games and situations!
In the end, I watch football to be entertained. If we win something playing like this, then I'll celebrate with everyone else, but it's not as satisfying. Can't we play like the Poch days and win a trophy.
I think one has to get the defence sorted out first, then play tippy, tappy. Not the other way round. But to answer your question, I'd take the double playing iffy football.
Winning games is all I care about. Was the second half pretty? No. But “The Tottenham Way” has seen us win **** all for 12 years and anything truly substantial for god knows how long. Substance over style any day of the week for me at the moment.
Spurs are obviously set up as a counter-attacking team. It's not attractive but it's extremely effective. I'm quite happy with this approach. Spurs need to focus on winning games, conceding fewer goals, and just rack up the points. I do wonder how Bale feels that he has swapped one bench from RM to another though!
There is no denying that the 2nd half was a long hard watch - but Hugo only made one save of note despite all of that possession, and they did put a lot of crosses in but we dealt with him better than I could ever have imagined. I am not going to single out any players because all 11 starters made a contribution, every player gave us everything that was team performance in every way and it may not be pretty but it is currently very effective. I am a very happy Spurs fan tonight I am delighted that Colin wont be seeing Vardy in the mirror tonight
Top of the League. 2nd most goals scored, least conceded. Victory in the NLD. Delighted with that. In terms of playing style...loved the football under Poch and got us the 2/3/4 placed finishes consistently. Mourinho needs to get us a trophy this or next season playing this way...
