Which all translates as, "I was hoping the takeover wouldn't happen so I could say 'told you so'. Now there is a takeover I'll have a dig then run away." Keep running ....
To be honest I'd written the game off as far as Johnson was concerned. A win wouldn't have been down to him so I can't award him the defeat either. I hope he's in his office early today, he has his work cut out.
The first 15 and a half minutes yesterday were far more energetic than they have been as a team in months. Bailey Wright dropped a clanger during a counter attack, which is uncharacteristic as a whole but his form has dropped massively in last the few games. McGeady was ok and showed, a few times, what quality he has with a turn of pace and decent crossing. The issue is that we have a confidence battered Will Grigg as the target of those crosses and league one defenders can deal with those all day long. Johnson seen where our weaknesses were and called them out. I was particularly happy that he directed his assessment to the board or "ownership group" in the PM interview. A clear sign that this first match / month is a recon mission to make a list for January. Hate that we were beaten but still very optimistic about the future post Tory boys. Ill also be happy when they bring ALL of thier staff back from furlough and stop pissing about.
Trusting you here marra.I am happy with the new set up, the difficult bit will be getting new bodies on the pitch
Agree mate, I cant ever remember a manager being appointed then walking straight into dugout......its blatantly obvious how desperate & crap we are. Hopefully he has them in for double sessions this week to bring then upto speed how he wants them to play. Tuesdays game might be a blessing in disguise as result doesnt matter but its kinda a pre season game for him to see if the understand what he wants from them. Praying 09s injury isnt to bad & hes the obvious choice for me to play in centre of a 3 behind striker due to his work rate he will be able to press high up all day....I honestly think this division is worse than when we came into it.....problem is so are we ffs!!! If we play a high pressing game there is no way players at this level are good enough on the ball to not make miatakes & we end up with ball back higher up pitch. Hoping this is LJs plan....he needa backing in jan & the two nuggets need removing from veing in a position to accept bail out or we are fooked. We lost, were running out of time fir this season.....but for once there is a plan & a structure incoming for the future. We need to KTF be ready to be back when were allowed
We are in the 3rd tier of league1 and a mid table team, Johnson is a championship manager, I didn’t want him, but the only names I wanted wouldn’t of come to us, 99% of teams would be happy with him, no one I have seen has been proper buzzing to have him ,but will back him, his first game in he’s had the balls to change the system and bring Mcgeady back with out even taking a training session, He’ll get us out the league and get us stable in the championship until are stock is higher and we can then bring in a bigger name manger, He’s not going to be are manager in the prem, but if he is, it’s means he’s done a cracking job, People are comparing his win % to Parkinson who’s managed all his life in the lower leagues apart from 1 or 2 season, Johnson is 39 years who’s managed most of it in the league above us
What's impressed me most about him, apart from what you've mentioned about the team yesterday is that after the match, he's called it exactly as the fans have the last few years - we need players that have pace and power. No toeing of the party line such as "we were unlucky with the result after all the possession we had" like Parkinson used to come out with - he's called it straight away and come out and said he expects to be backed by the "ownership group". Give the guy time and I really think he will have us punching at the top end of the championship once he has put his plans into place and is backed in the transfer market. Hopefully after the match he and Speakman would've sat down and discussed what needs doing and how to go about it.
Just chuckling at the rampant indignation from the anti-takeover ITK's on here ... .... or IKFA's as I call them. "There won't be a takeover, Donald wants another crack at promotion." Donald, "I want to sell the club." "He's bluffing to placate the supporters." Donald, "We're talking to preferred buyers." "He might want to sell but no one will buy during a pandemic." Donald agrees a deal to sell the club. "It's only the Guardian, it won't happen." The new people start assembling a new staff. "It's Methven/Rodwell/Donald doing that." The new staff dismiss that idea. "It's not a takeover, there's a financial entity you idiots don't understand called 'share jiggling' which means nothing has changed." Seriously, these people are absolutely desperate for the club to fail ... ... either that or they're sad little people pretending to be Sunderland. Makes you glad you're not them.
I said a few weeks ago that I wanted Parky gone and that I wanted whoever came in to be talking in terms of a project. Johnson wasn't on my list but he is saying the right things so I'm right behind him. I actually liked the way that he quietly dug out the strikers by saying that there was not enough movement in the box and nobody gambling on the near post - if they have any self respect at all they will know that was aimed at them and will be working their socks off in training to prove him wrong. I'm looking forward to seeing how this team responds this month as they know that he will want to be strengthening in Jan and I do think that if he can get us playing passion and commitment for 90 minutes each game that we will have enough to make the play offs and possibly even second (I think Hull might be away and gone already). We've fallen a hell of a long way in recent years and this last few days seems to me to be the first time that it has finally been acknowledged properly that what we were doing was only going to see us fall further and that the whole system needed changing and will now be changed. Onwards and upwards!!!
I also think it will be interesting as I would think this is Danny Graham's last shot in a decent size football club and Grigg is on the footballing equivalent to Death Row....the clock is ticking for these two
If he doesn't buck his ideas up, I can see Graham being paid off in January. I'm sure he only got a 1 year deal, so give him 6 months salary and get someone else in who will actually do something in the box
Im not going against he may have developed enough to manage in the prem, like you say ges 39, a young manager who already has a lot of management games under his belt. He seems a positive person, the takeover might be our chance....this mighr be Johnsons. I do agree he would not have been my ideal choice, I wasn't 100% sure with poyet, our best chance to get back to prem to ne is BSA, but like you say some are out of reach. To me Johnson wants to play football, the back ground plan being put in place goes along with that, Im happy like you say hes capable of achieving what you state at a minimum. Biggest imediate challenge ahead is a big January to give the bloke a decent chance this season, we need to be ready early doors in January not the 31st You got any info as in if the FPP loan will be paid or stay in place?
