That would mean losing most of your oil and fishing rights

You've gone full saxton, you ****ing weirdo. He specialises in these crap sit-com scripts, featuring well known characters like Crazed Leftie and Accountant A. Now you're at it.

Have you read Animal Farm? At the end, the pigs all turn into men; you've turned into creepy pete the crazed accountant.

It's really not. Government by plebiscite is not democracy, it's mob rule.

It's a stupid argument, democracy comes in many forms.

Look i get it, you didn't get the result you wanted and since then you've been in a big cream puff but really!

You think giving an electorate the chance to decide their own future is undemocratic, mob rule even?

    You've lost it my friend!

Best to keep folks in unions they don't want to be in. Especially unions that Erchie likes.

What form of democracy is that?

Representative democracy actually works. The people elect representatives to govern on their behalf; a flawed system, but history shows it's better than pretty much all the others.

Government by plebiscite means asking the plebs (spanners) to make decisions on subjects they don't understand. It's a a form of populism beloved of tyrants, and history shows it invariably ends in disaster. See Brexit for details.

Rule by committee for the most part then give the plebs a vote now and again

Ireland is doing OK for a constitutional democracy, giving the people the opportunity to change laws as society changes ie pooves marriage.

We get it, you think everyone is stupid because they didn't vote like you at the Brexit vote

It's all fùcking moot anyhoo. There is no evidence that there is any great desire for Shetland or Orkney to be independent of Scotland if Scotland itself became independent.

And even if they did, international law dictates that small islands or enclaves are only entitled to six miles of maritime territory. Which means Shetland would have no oil and very little fish.

Custard cream knows nothing of which he speaks but at least he's consistent.

What hasn't been taken not account on Brexit was raised on Newsnight yesterday by an import/export guy who has been running a firm across the channel for 28 years. He said that it is now impossible to get truck drivers to sign up on the short crossing run after Jan1. Apparently there us plenty of work for truckers that doesn't involve potentially queuing for several days for customs clearance. He quoted trucks going to Serbia and Belarus where the customs cause hold ups of up to a week meaning the drivers don't get paid during their wait.

This could potentially finish the car industry as well as making all sorts of perishable cargoes impossible to move. Is fish perishable? Does the Pope **** in the woods?

Getting the people to decide on pooves marriage was an act of cowardice by the Irish government, regardless of the outcome. Why the **** should Paddy and Kathleen get to decide who can and can't get married?

David Cameron may have been shiny faced clueless posh boy, but at least he had the courage to push legislation through Parliament, instead of doing a Pontius Pilate and letting the mob decide.

There's an opening for the unemployed to consider training as truck drivers.
The car industry can deal with delays. If not, they must be stupid.
If there's problems with fish then it's best that we do our own fishing and eat our own fish.
