I can't disagree with the above but just an add on, the man split our fan base, some of us gave up attending football because we were pissed off with him, he plays on false sympathies pleading his love for the club and the players mentioned as family silver he in fact inherited, were both brought through the youth system by former manager Steve Cotterill ( He won and made us Champions of League 1). We have got a diamond in charge now, adult, straight, honest and no excuses or waffle, the morale of the club is high, the supporters stand behind the club as one again, the difference now ' Streaky' has departed is remarkable don't allow him to create a divide between you guys, take note from our mistakes.
City were skint and had to see due to LJ buying all these ones for the future and hiding them at Failand. Quite like him at first then didn’t mind then started to cringe at his guff. Sunderland till I die on Netflix could be superb with him in series three episode one the clutch phase, episode two wot no leaders episode three did I tell you about my my chat with Pep, episode four the grass was too long and I know cos I measured it, episode four drone wars !!
Many top managers sets an ultimate goal and the majority fail to achieve it....................................nothing new....more waffle to fit the argument! Many mangers are given, what you call, large budgets which in today's game means nothing with overinflated fees and wages......again nothing new. Many managers are sometimes lucky to a point that they are able to put a team together and they all gel fairly instantly...it happens..again nothing new. Unfortunately with LJ, he aimed high, the players he acquired and brought in, didn't gel how he wanted or were not consistent enough to fulfil the clubs goal. Yes he made mistakes, yes sometimes he got things badly wrong...but he tried to change things, styles, formations etc but not enough worked with what he had. So ultimately for us, in the time he had with us, he failed the goal he set out.. But did keep us in the championship for 4 years where others have failed.. Most managers that are doing the rounds are in and out of jobs, even top ones...................................................That's football......doesn't make him a bad coach. I await with on the edge excitement, for some more technical waffle why I am wrong!!
They love and can't get enough of each other really!!! He will be on their forum warning that it will all end in tears which of course is normal!!
Well I see it, it was the fans that split the fan base, couldn't handle who he was rather than just backing him. The straight honest guy we have in is due to LJ bringing him here. He aims high as most managers and like most managers will fail their ultimate goal.........Part of being a football coach, as one would see with most managers doing the rounds......all what you would call failures!!!
Yes it was waffle (no limits thinking, North stars.. ). An opinion I would agree with is you are correct. Amongst the waffle there were statements e.g. identity which were literal. Mr Johnson failed to do what he stated. Mr Johnson keeping Bristol City in the championship should be viewed in the context of the unprecedented resources placed at his disposal. Resources that should have seen him be able to put in place that fabled identity.
There you go, at last some admissons about LJ ~ * He failed to achieve his own set ultimate goal. * He failed to manage large budgets because of overinflated fees and wages. * He failed because he wasn't lucky enough to get his players to gel quickly. * He failed with his high aims, the players he acquired didn't gel to his demands and were not consistent. * He failed because he made mistakes, got things badly wrong, tried to change things, styles, formations but didn't work enough with what he had. * He failed the goals he set out in the time he had with us but he did keep us in the Championship for 4 years. I totally agree with all of the above points, what hope that must give to the Sunderland fans.
Rod Greetings from Cornwall. I'll be glad for Sunderland to do well even under Junior just for my mates who are Sunderland through and through. And tbh I'm relieved he's employed as the longer it went on I was terrified Lansdown might bring him back in some concocted position. Ps - Paulton turned him down
It didn't take him long, his first words to Sunderland fans ~ 'Speaking upon his arrival, Johnson said: “Speaking to Kristjaan, Jim and the owners, I was absolutely blown away by their plans and dreams for the club. I can see so much potential and I see it everywhere. I see it in the league and how we can step up, I see it in the facilities, I see it in the community and the passion the people of Sunderland have, and I also see it in the academy. The feeling I got from the ownership group [made this the right club for me]. There was other interest, but that doesn’t matter now and I want to be successful and to see a brave new Sunderland. I want to be bold in my own decisions, I want to be bold for the team in the way that we play and the philosophy that we play to, but I also want the club to make bold decisions and that is what I’ve truly bought into. We have to connect the team and the fan base because that can be really powerful at a club like this.” Now where have I heard all of that twaddle before?
Luck is when preparation meets opportunity ... Seneca. A point about Lee Johnson is when you go through so much cyclic change you become in a sense unlucky. The truly successful (lucky) Managers share a consistent ideal of what they want. They manage and prepare for the future. Mr Johnson with his churn of players and tombola selections could not. After four years here it’s hard to describe what his football was or even a consistent formation. That cannot be said of the successful (lucky) managers from Dicks to Cooper to Cotterill.
Not sure if you can view this as a guest, but there are some more discussions going on here LFD: https://www.otib.co.uk/index.php?/t...anager-gone-lj-now-confirmed/page/7/#comments The debate will run and run amongst our fans - this thread has had more replies than today’s match thread! In fact, that’s probably true about ALL LJ threads!!
All true - in fact, a lot of truth has been spoken in this thread from both sides of the debate. Just to respond to your (accurate) statement about some people staying away because of LJ - it’s also true to point out that average attendance has INCREASED significantly during LJs tenure
