The benefits don’t match the conditions. I’m Not the money man but if we take it then it will be detrimental to us.
I don't think the squad is good enough unfortunately - there is a lack of pace and power in the middle of the park - our central strikers cannot run - 3 of them cannot control a ball - so we struggle to hold the ball up top to allow us to build pressure and play attacking football - the 2 goalkeepers are sub-standard. Not an easy job unless the young fringe players can come in an do a job.
Happy birthday @janey All the best and have a great day. Ha'way the takeover. Ha'way the new manager. Ha'way the win today.
Exactly. Not taking it though could give us a big advantage. I know the salary cap is tricky but in terms of fees we could be one of the only teams spending any, at a time when clubs really are desperate.
If indeed Johnson is confirmed in the job then its an upgrade on Parkinson which is what we all were after. He had a team playing good football in the league above and whilst they always fell short they played attacking football, that should strike a chord with all of us after 13 months of Parkyball.
The fact we are still in striking distance of the top or play offs despite the turgid and abject displays, speaks volumes of the standard in this league. I'm sure an ambitious manager such as Johnson has made a calculated decision that if he gets promotion, his stock will increase dramatically. He also has the backing of a young ambitious board who have a few quid behind them... All being well, 3 points today and the start of a new exciting time...god knows we deserve it.
A really good post. It’s all about context. Under the circumstances, best players being sold, then he did an absolutely cracking job. It’s all about a sound structure to work and build from and if we get that right, everything else will fall into place. That’s why good managers do well at certain clubs and look like a car crash at others.
Not sure why there is this obsession with "pace" - Gooch has pace, Hume has pace, Diamond has pace, Watmore had pace - it's no good just being fast if you don't have the right players and the right tactics
My biggest worry about him I'd he doesn't seem to get a team over that final hurdle. Hopefully we don't turn into Peterborough, makes a number of profits on attacking players, play quite a bit of attacking football, fail perennially after starting well. We'll just have to hope he's already figured out why he keeps getting beat by the better teams and finishes midtable as a result and that he's the right fit for us here
I think the transfer and wage restrictions only come into effect if the clubs apply for a grant from the additional £20m monitored grant fund. I hope with the wealth of the new ownership group we won’t need to apply for this second grant.
Hopefully the new owners financial backing will mean we only sell the players we want to sell or if the big boys come knocking we sell for an excessive amount and reinvest the proceeds in the team.
Which is what we all need to put our energies into as there’s a real chance that Derby, Forrest and Wednesday could all drop this season.
Exactly, I think we all get carried away at times and forget which league we are in. He's not got a bad track record and likes to play attacking football. He's still young and hopefully learned lessons and improving. Fingers crossed now.
Technically yes. What's the current split? Donald - 75% Sartori - 20% Methven - 5% It's changing to (IIRC) KLD - 40% Sartori - 40% Donald - 15% Methven - 5% So, between Sartori, Donald and Methven, they will have 60% of the shares, but the "new ownership" really is KLD and Sartori with Donald a silent minority shareholder. In reality, he's only keeping hold of his shares so he can sell them at a profit when we eventually return to the PL
Hughton will get Forest sorted, but Derby are the obvious ones. Is Pulis in at Sheff Wed now? They should be fine in that case
