Of course I respect your opinion, it's great hearing different viewpoints. I'm always getting sucked in when people start talking about media. Funny thing is, my first degree was in media studies and at the time, I took it because I wanted to work in the media (made sense). I was lucky enough, probably one of the 1% that actually wound up working in media after uni, and in recent times that degree and the subsequent experiences have become incredibly useful in conversation about the media and so called biases. There's so much more to it than people realise, a lot of it can be explained away with common sense and a bit of digging, but in these strange times of 'fake news' and shifting perceptions, it's much easier to sift through the people shouting into the void and actually get to the root of the problem. The way I see it, the YP has always been very pro Yorkshire (quel surpirse), so it tends to take less of a vested interest in the individual clubs and focuses more on the region in general (it still feels weird seeing them discuss Boro), which is perhaps why they come across as more positive, especially now that we are winning. The HDM are closer to home, so yes, you'd probably feel like they should support the club more, but they're not fans themselves (perhaps some individually, but not as a collective) and they do try to remain as objective as possible (though the previously stated open letter does argue against that). In the end, it's down to personal choice. I can't stand bias, to me objectivity in football is important (I actually like the idea of VAR, I just wish it wasn't so ****tily implemented) because to lead with emotion instead of broad daylight fact, things start to get clouded. Things like stats, trends and sport science are my weakness, I'm a bit of a geek for things like data and analysis so maybe that's why I see football matches so black and white. If their keeper has a good game, it's fair enough, but to me it's our strikers not putting the ball in the net. Yep, that's mighty harsh, but to me the striker has to score if he has the chance to trouble the keeper, especially if that keeper is troubled as much as we are doing. I didn't know there was another party involved with Lloyd, that's very interesting and I'll look into that some more. I guess the arrival of Sir Adam took the edge off because I remember going from angry to sad to overjoyed in a heartbeat. The KC to me was like a palace, I couldn't believe my team were going to play there and I still think it's one of the best grounds in the country, having been to nearly all of them.
Well, I'd have the same complaints if two football teams were sharing it. It's not that rugby destroys it more than football so much that it's two professional teams using the surface. I genuinely don't know this, but who pays for the upkeep of the pitch? Is the groundsman Hull City employed or is he employed by the SMC?
The HDM and other local papers which were owned by the Daily Mail group have gone downhill since they were bought by the group which owns the Mirror. The Express which is also now owned by the same group has also deteriorated greatly.
Any red top paper is a waste of space. I only read the HDM for Hull City, the local stories about drug dealers going to court are just a waste of ink/pixels to me.
Milan and Inter and Romania and Lazio manage. About 5 clubs use the Maracana. Swansea's pitch is fine despite being shared with a union team who play all through the winter when the weather is at its worst. As do Bristol City and others. And union, with contested scrumsloose scrums and mauls does more damage to pitches than league. Don't know about the ins and outs of the upkeep but I bet City's contribution to the cost far outweighs FC's. Every agreement originally drawn up seems to favour FC.
Fair enough, I just wondered if two teams sharing a pitch would double the wear and tear but as you say, other teams manage it so it's probably not an issue. I'd have though the SMC employ a groundskeeping team, which is owned by the Allams, so yeah it would favour FC if they aren't paying as much for the upkeep.
Yep. And I've been the player who has had shots saved time and time again in a game. But that was my fault, I should have stuck more of the chances away.
Forgot Bayern Munich who don't seem to be too badly affected by sharing with 1860. Adam Pearson when setting up agreements when we moved into the KC gave FC some very favourable terms. Ironic seeing how in those days FC fans considered him the devil incarnate.
notes on reading's efforts in 2005-6 when they set the football league record of 106 points for the season. as city have 11 wins from 14, i'll start with reading's first 14 games. games 1-14 aug 6 - oct 18 LWWWD WDWWW DWWD starting with a defeat wasn't helpful. the first 14 games included 9 wins, 4 draws, and one loss. that makes for a total of 31 points. the 14th game was a 1-1 in hull. games 15-28 oct 22 - jan 2 WDWWW WWWWW WWDW more impressive, especially the run of 10 wins. 12 wins and 2 draws, adding 38 points to the 31 for 69 from 28, a shade under 2.5 points per game. extended the undefeated league run to 27 games. totals now 21 wins, 6 draws, 1 defeat. games 29-42 jan 14 - apr 8 WDWWW DLWWD DDWW 8 wins, 5 draws, another defeat. that's 29 more points, making 98 from 42 games, which is two-and-a-third per game. totals now 29 wins, 11 draws, 2 defeats. the unbeaten run lasted 33 games. games 43-46 apr 15 - apr 30 DWDW eight more points from the last four games, taking the total to 106. 31 wins, 13 draws, 2 defeats. 11 unbeaten to end the season. scored 4 twice and 5 five times (including against cardiff twice).
Good analysis & presentation. If City maintain their current points/game rate over the whole of the season, it would generate a new record of 108 points over a 46 game season. To compare City's '65 - '66 season with Reading's '05-'06 season: (both on 3 pts/win basis): Team League Season Pd W D L GF GA +/- Pts pts/G Reading CH '05-'06 46 31 13 2 99 32 67 106 2.30 Hull C. 3rd '65-'66 46 31 7 8 109 62 47 100 2.17 You could argue City's matches offered more entertainment given matches had more goals per game !
Possibly because we had an outstanding attack and a not so outstanding defence. It was never really put right at that time.
