I know what (sic) means and why it is inserted into text so thank you for detailing for other spurs fans that may not know.

They may not know which is why I was asking why they were using it. It has been inserted many many times in this thread yet I cannot see why in most cases. I will now have to be annoyingly pedantic and read this silly thread from the start to see if there are actually any 'knowingly' misspelt words gving reason for (sic) to be continuously be used. lol

So if I do not come back to this thread for a few days I shall have to add now that our academy is better than yours.. so thur (sic)

Indeed the Iberian Peninsual but don't tell the wife. The Portugues get upset when they hear Iberia(n) as they immediately assume Spanish suggestions. No idea what they call it.

This is within 10 miles of Mourinho's hometown of Setubal. The Coast just 100 yards from my feet is the Atlantic and facing towards the US. This ain't the 'populated by londeners' (sic) area known as the Algarve. This is Lisbon/Aletejano region (where the best wines come from) lol. Although I must admit My Dad's brother owns some Villas in the Algarve and he is definitely all Winchester. I prefer to be away from the English when on holiday ;)

typical Englishman abroad? Nope I am not bright red. lol and the kid is not having a dump. Thats my second eldest pointing at a car wheel for some reason.

And I see Spurs think the left is the middle. No idea what that MPV is behind me but the Fiesta definitely is left not middle. Typical Socialists. lol. No idea where they are.

right I'm off to be a pedant.

Hate to back Ensil up on his pedantry, but there are five cars in the picture and the fiesta's the third one from the left. And the right...

Typical North Larndener (sic) obsessed with cars. Most people would asume the middle of the picture first not car. lol Anyway I am right there.

And maybe my kid is having a dump. Maybe the car had a spurs badge on it.

As for the (sic) I must have been typing on another thread with some spurs fans in it today because strangely there are only 2 occurrences of it in this thread. One where Bostock was spelt Bostick (very clever. You must've been chuckling on that one) who I've never heard of until this weekend when perusing a Crystal Palace thread.

    and the other occurrence:
Is people spelt differently than it should? I can't see why it's used here.

Not a problem. Just confused me earlier. I'm not the one to warble on about grammar, spelling or mistypes. Although all of mine (tongue in cheek) are solely down to my wireless keyboard sometimes being too far away from the sensor. lol

Wonder which thread it was on where there were loads of (sic). That'll teach me to post on 2 seperate threads in the same week. lol

See you next year or the year after guys. Where Lallana can teach Modric a lesson ;)

I assumed at the time that he was implying that "some people" was a generous term as there was only petty insults coming from Southampton fans at that moment. It doesn't necessarily have to be a deliberate mistake to use (sic), it can be used after something deliberately misleading too, "some people" when he means "Southampton fans". I glossed over it at the time as I didn't want to make an argument out of it but you did ask and since the moment's passed lets just leave it at that.

I share your frustration, but think that most of the big premier clubs do a pretty good job at growing their own talented players too. In fact most clubs in all divisions probably have at least one premier starlet who wasn't quite ready to make the step up.

    Cheers for the response fatletiss.

That's my point though mate, the players are demanding the move, it's still the chairman's decision to keep or sell. I just used Modric and Adam's situations as signs of players who despite wanting a move, still got their heads down and worked for the team that was paying their wages and that's how footballers should react to not getting their moves, though as you said for everyone one of them, there's another ten that will act like a kid throwing their toys out the pram and unfortunately it won't change for the forseeable future.
Berbatov was a disgrace the way he behaved, and although every Spurs fan will admit he was a great, great striker, getting the £30m for him wasn't a bid bit of business, the only bad thing for us was the fact we let him go on deadline day and had no time to get a replacement which in the end left us right in the sh*t for that season, as ‘Arry will mention, we had “2 points from 8 games” before he took charge.

Again cheers for the response st_brendy.

Agreed, which is why every Spurs fan was behind Levy in regards to rejecting any offer, regardless of how ridiculously high it was, no money could have got us a better or equivalent player to Modric that we could attract and we knew that without Modric, even getting a Europa place would have been difficult let alone a top 4 finish.

Don't get me wrong £15m is a fantastic amount of money for a player who caught the eye in League 1 at the time. Though my point still is, if the chairman didn't need and most importantily didn't want to sell (and that goes to all previous players too) then he could have knocked back the bid. If your club is/ was in a financial mess, then the only people to blame are the people running the club, not the teams bidding for the player, which is what I was trying to get at with the OP as he was claiming clubs were “nicking” their players.

Typical of your statements......Judge and jury..........Suggest you concentrate more on your own offerings rather than trying to annoy me.......On this front you are wasting your time! Earlier you and others were complaining about being off topic......As I said earlier......if we see anything that we feel that warrants action we will take it.

Hey! Wow! A good response without making me feel like I'm on the bottom of a shoe - shame that one of the others posting on here doesn't have your polite ability to have a discussion about football. Thanks for that, it is genuinely appreciated. For football's sake, it was a good thing that Levy held out against Chelski over Modric, but there is quite a difference in the Chamerlain situation, as you are at least in the same league as Chelsea, if not the Champions League this year and Modric was still earning a whacking great salary. Chamberlain was in a newly promoted Championship team, probably earning £1k-£4k a week and now probably earning £20k-£40k a week. A little easier to pacify Modric with that.

Good Luck for the season, but as for the other question "Spurs or Sex?" Well, I'll assume a parallel comparison and ask "Saints or Sex?"....... I get to see Saints regularly and that's guaranteed!!! If I asked the wife for a season ticket for the other, she'd probably tell me I get it once a season already!

I think I'll stop bantering with those who don't quite understand tongue in cheek comments. lol

On the original OP question I see no problem with other teams poaching youngsters from teams. Absolutely no problem, however I see a big problem with the way they go about it.

If they first ask the chariman, agree a price and the chairman says fine then they get to talk to the player etc. It's not even a case of youngsters. It should be any player.

Then if the player agrees the deal is done.

However when Wenger publicly speaks about it before even talking to our chairman that is wrong. Then for Wenger to then cry over Barcelona doing the same with Fabregas is laughable.

The problem is that they are all at it. they tell the press who they are interested in and probably a fair selection. Maybe they say 5 players so that they can see or hear a reaction from players. This is the wrong part not the actual business deals that go on afterwards.

Similar to a rumour about Puncheon already being in his car outside Loftus Road while QPR were agreeing the loan deal. How did he know to be there? However in this case it's not a problem. NC found out raised the price (if the rumour is true.) Even if he hadn't it is Puncheon and we would've let QPR have him for a packet of crisps as long as he was out of our building. lol

So in answer to the OP. Let them come and see. Let them go through the proper channels but take them all to task and to the authorities if they start bleating to the media about who they are going to buy before the deal is even on the table.

as to why this descended into digs at Spurs. Ask the fool who said Spurs are a 'proper' club. The teams in the blue square are 'proper' clubs. Just because there is a romance and history with Spurs. Just because they are a big club (and I agree they are) does not mean they are proper and those that do not have this are not. Saints are smaller than Spurs but most definitely are a 'proper' club.

Maybe it is true.....but he did get taken on by our academy non the less.....it's just that he wasn't in there for long. He began to make a reputation quite early on after joining. Carried on in our reserves.....then when we had a striker injury crisis, stepped in and made history by scoring a debut hattrick against of all Teams Arsenal. The rest really is history..........

Kettering didn't nick Jake Thompson, we released him, then he signed for Exeter and they released him again. Tim Sparv wasn't rated by Redknapp but may have stayecd given the opportunity. They were hardly stolen. Stolen usually implies they have made a significant impact on the first team before they leave and we really want them to stay.

The new regime is poles apart from the old one and should be counted on to do things properly.

Lol I don't feel the need to mug people off on here really mate, don't see why some people do anyway, plus I do it enough at the games as I sit in Park Lane which is right next to the away fans! :D

As I said if we lost Modric, the Europa League position would probably have been the aim and even then would have been difficult to get, the guy is an amazing player and is the catalyst to all our strong attacks, probably the best player I've seen at Spurs in my 21 years. Surprisingly though to the average joe, Luka is on a whacking great salary but in footballers terms, he's actually not on a relatively high wage, probably about £50k/£60k a week, compare that to some players in the league and Europe who pick up double that and aren't fit to lace Luka's boots it's astonishing really that we've kept him this long.

Same to you too mate, wouldn't mind a trip to Southampton next year, not been to St Mary's and I'm always up for going to grounds I've never been before! <ok>
