that's purely because of twitter and the news reported on there. it's a cycle. something comes on twitter, odds come down. odds coming down means people talk about it on twitter, odds come down some more. It's what happened with Poyet yesterday. People really need to ignore odds!!!
Wouldn't surprise me if we appointed a manager totally not mentioned as yet, probably someone from overseas..bit risky, but as I say, wouldn't surprise me
Yeah thanks mate, I never realised we needed promotion to get out of league 1. What’s it with everyone’s small time thinking? You get **** if you accept it
Oh aye, I don't think his odds shortening means he's in line to get the job, more letting people know if they're betting. Personally, I've got a tenner on Johnson at 20/1 and a fiver on Stendel at 26/1. I'd take Stendel, but don't want Johnson. After Poyet, I'm not really excited about any of the names linked.
while you're on the subject of Cookie, I always understood that you couldn,t make a PERSON redundant, you have to make the POST redundant that the person held, and therefore that job would no longer exist. If I'm correct ( not sure) then we will never again have a 'kit man' as such, surely we can't be in such a **** state that we can't afford to employ a kit man?
This. Ignore odds unless they suddenly, massively tumble (which suggests big money being put on, which doesn't normally happen without a leak), and even then as poyet proved yesterday it doesn't always happen! The bookies won't be making any odds based on what they think is likely after they've set the initial odds, they just react to how much money is being placed on people and adjust accordingly to ensure they make money either way. If we wanted, and if we knew cowley was very likely, we could invent a name between us (maybe bowyer if it wasn't for the mags links), could spread "information" about him being seen in the area etc. A few of us do that on here, on twitter etc and you'd see his odds crash. At which point cowleys would drift, as lump on him and be quids in. That's how prehab and magnus managed to afford that yacht (just kidding lads!)
This is it, and why I'm frantically beating the drum for Cowley as I believe he would be a good appointment and want other people to be excited. I realise though, that that's futile. Like you say, everyone needs to be behind the regime so I hope they have another candidate that will be popular across the board.
I really hope the new manager has big shoulder and can take the pressure of a club like ours. Problem is little known managers never seem to do well and it ends badly. I hope I'm proven wrong.
yesterday has blown all the plans apart it looks like. I’d rather they now take their time and let the new lot and SpD get their man instead of rushing to get someone in before Saturday. It’s a **** situation and I can’t believe I’m saying it but if we just go for anyone who’s out of work like the cowleys purely for speed it could harm us more longer term. Put us back where we are in 12/13 months time again.
I was a bit gutted yesterday re. Poyet. But having thought about it, it was only because I was caught up in the positivity on here. Would he be the best man for the job? I'm not too sure he would. He would be a big name to get in league 1, no doubt about it, but I think that's all it would be....a big name. I'm sure there was fans at another club that ****ed themselves daft over a "name" , but who, in reality, was ****e.
I suppose it all depends on how much they value that initial boost. If its cowley then he won't get the fan base buzzing. That being said, if they've done their homework, are confident he'll be good, and he hits the ground running, then they get another chance to do some decent business in January (albeit within the financial constraints of the league). If we look better and people can see a potential automatic promotion push, alongside a good transfer window, then everyone will be right behind cowley. I'll respect them if they are convinced he's the right man, they get him, and it works. They'll just get a lot less patience from fans if it doesn't!
What I liked about poyet was the fact that loads of players seem to have been positive about the improvements they saw as a result of his coaching. If we were doing a reset and getting a culture throughout the club then him having a defined and (when working well) attractive style of play was a major positive. Get the u23s playing like that, get this link between the kids and the first team. He'd be good for all of that. I also thought that, as more of a talented coach, he'd be ideal working with a sporting director or DoF model. Seemingly he didn't agree! Cowley sounds positive in that he'll adapt to what he's got, but actually building a club almost from the bottom up I'm not so sure
He told me he runs an Instagram page and he speaks to players parents and other. He’s PM’d me a couple and was spot on as well haha
