Don't look at it like a one man means all situation, this is about the structure of the club and the people within it. We have done the former for years and its why we are where we are
I'm underwhelmed but if this process is being done properly and the structure for success is there I think we have to be 100% behind it. In any case who knows what will happen, could be someone completely different
This PE teacher thing is quite funny and so misguided it's insane. Forget Mourinho. People ought to look into the likes of Pete Carroll and Bill Belicheck. In sports you absolutely do not need to be a player to be a coach or a manager. To be a coach or a manager, you need to be a coach or a manager.
Sounds realistic to me, mate. Poyet was an unusual one really, in that he has history with us, is Paraguayan, with links to Satori perhaps, Other than that, he wouldn’t have, given where we are as a club, even returned our phone call! If the new man is backed via a sound club structure, we’ll be ok. That is going to be the key to any success. It’s why, mainly, some managers are successful at certain clubs, but not others.
I’ll back any manager but what we needed was something to get the place buzzing again. Pearson and Phillips would do it as would poyet and stefan schwarz but the cowleys and cook wouldn’t. Gary Johnson wouldn’t be a pathetic appointment to be honest and prove nothing has changed
If indeed poyet has walked away due to the likely new owners being clear in their mind that a DoF/Sporting Director approach/model is right for the club, fair enough. I’ve said for a few years now that if I can see a model that delivers improvements in the footballing side of the club, develops the club and shows some semblance of a plan I’ll get behind it. short termism and a lack of forward planning has got us to where we are now, something needs to change to get us out of this downward spiral and I really hope that the change starts now.
Exactly this, plus based on style of play. With a bit luck in 5 years time everyone will look at Sunderland and say they like to play good football, they like to play like this like that......hopefully not hoofball but you get my drift
Tbh..the more I read about the Cowleys the more im drawn to them.....engaging with the community etc...Cowley has managed for 650 games and hes only 42, if you are looking long term he could fit, hes definitely no journeyman
I just think "fallen giants appoint next big thing to build their way back to the top" is far more exciting than "failing club pay over the odds for big name who doesn't really want to be there. Again."
In that great piece someone posted yesterday about the Cowleys....there is a very good point made in it also.... .....it went on that they had a 3-4-3 formation during the first half of a season which wasnt bringing results, they sat down and thought these players suit a 4-2-3-1.....implemented it and went on to win the league........They can see if somethings not working and change for the better.......well theres something were not used to! Forget which club it was at
Lee johnson got Bristol city to the championship and had them consistently fighting for promotion. He's young enough, like the Cowleys. I'd give either a shot and they'd get my full support.
I think it is a blessing. I really do. It turned ugly with Gus last time and I think a lot of people would, like it or not, have had that in mind. As soon as **** hit a bump, Gus would have had the baggage of before. It got so bad protesting fans got thrown out so raging that it got shown on match of the day. That baggage never fully goes away. A fresh start is better methinks.
I agree with you, Norton. I’d be happy with the Cowley brothers. Their record is sound and they prefer two ball-playing centre half’s as you mentioned yesterday. We should have more going forwards. We need a manager (management team) that can get us out of this league and then hopefully, at least, establish us in the championship. That’s a minimum two year project. No point concerning ourselves about having a manager capable of getting us back to the prem and beyond - just yet.
