Still noises that Jetro Willems is inbound in January for a cut price deal. Given that he was (bar his first few games) a storming success in his half season stint here last year would he get into the starting XI ahead of Jamaal Lewis? Personally for me its a resounding yes. Lewis, for me, is very negative on the ball and is usually guilty of being the one to start moving the ball backwards or square when we are trying to break forwards. Granted I think he is probably a slightly better defender than Willems but Jetro loves to get forwards and move forwards with the ball, had a great relationship with ASM down the left and also had a habit of scoring some very good goals. Who'd you pick to start?
Willems in a hearbeat. Lewis is as you quite rightly say far too negative. In his first few games I could probably accept that but it just seems to be his style....or the way Bruce has him playing more like. Far too often I've found myself screaming at him to whip the ball in to the box only for it to ****ing end up back at Darlow's feet !! Willems is far quicker as well (recent injury may have hampered that somewhat) which is more what we should be looking for in my opinion....and he did chip in with a couple of screamers !!
Willems all day long. Be a great option and would probably help Lewis no end. He's had a patchy start, and an experienced head would be welcome. Plus Willems was really good for us, and clearly wanted to stay. He's popular with the fans, and brings an attacking element which works well. The likes of Fraser, Almiron, ASM would all benefit from having such a talented attacking option to work in tandem with them.
He's so overrated by our fans like. I'd take him back as 2nd choice though but he's nowhere near as good as people make out
Strange given opposition fans noticed him... Very good player... He's had two major injuries now hence why nobody else took him.. If we had Lewis and Willems that ideal ino
I have a thing for black Dutch footballers. First it was kluivert, then Anita, and now Willems. We'd need both ideally but I'd love to bring Willems back and have him in the team. He's head and shoulders above Lewis
I don't agree with that opinion I think he was attack minded but he made plenty of tackles.. Anyway like I say both is perfect because you can play the very limited Lewis or the attack minded willems depending on the opposition. Lewis is quite reliable, but we need two simple as that
Willems was a god solid mid table modern left wing back. The problem is will it work when you have an out and out left midfielder? Lewis is raw and I don’t see much quality yet. Time is however on his side. Remember he doesn’t get an awful lot of cover from ASM so his remit must be to sit back.
Willems - I really liked watching him. We do need a another LB so I say get him back if we can. Having said that I think Lewis has been Bruce'd. I think when he 1st got in the team he was way more positive but was quickly shackled. He can be a good player for us.
Does it matter when we have Bruce IN charge? Bruce plays 4 at the back. Both Lewis and Willems are **** in a back 4 same as Schar. In a back 5 it would be interesting to see Lewis under a good manager. If Bruce is going to play a back 4 then it pains me to say it but Dummett would be our best option
Points wise he is where he would be expected to be Football wise it's not football that's being served up
