Where has this dof came from, when the lequippe (sp) broke the news they said sporting director which is a completely different job. Not having a go at you mate but there’s a lot of people saying dof and I’ve not heard or seen it said anywhere apart from negative posters

I thought that the decision on a DoF was deep in the process of being made/already been made? As in that was in the minds of the owners all along. It’s surprising then that decisions are still being made on a manager/DoF relationship this late. Thought they would have considered all of this.

If that’s a decision to be made then we move on from Poyet in my opinion. The sporting director role is crucial to the future of the club. I can’t see the owners being massively hands on and as such they need someone to oversee everything with a clear long term plan. The sporting director has to come before the manger in this set up as most likely the sporting director will go through 3-4 managers in their time at the club.

Isn't it just speculation mate, unless there are quotes it's just 'my sources suggest' isn't it.

Yeah very true. Just with Prehab being so on the ball with everything so far it’s hard not to take what he says as factual!

Not too sure tbh just taking from what people are saying on here. They sound the same to me though tbh considering the sport we play is football but I've never understood the need for either role to be fair.

I think the Sporting Director / Director of Football role is one that has different job description at different clubs. I also think it has evolved over recent years to something more aligned to supporting the manager and coaches, rather than setting out how the team should play and / or identifying targets.

A good example is Edwards at Liverpool. He was there before Klopp arrived but Klopp has defined the way the team have played. Edwards has worked with Klopp on identifying players and he has experts working for him such as scouts and data analysts doing lots of background work. He is then involved in getting the deal done. What manager wouldnt want that sort of team to work with? Hopefully a conversation can be had that convinces any manager doubting a Sporting Director that it doesnt mean their control is eroded.

I still think we will have a sporting director mate. Don't worry about that. Just feel it will be interesting to see how it all plays out. Ideally the SD would be appointed first but I don't see that happening athough it's close. Manager needs to be with games thick and fast.

I wouldn’t proper concentrate on the betting odds on sky bet, because what some sly people do who are trusted tell people the wrong name so the bet on that name, so the real name who the actual betting makes the odds better, a lot like horse racing

this is the difference for me between the two, poyet might not want to work with someone buying players for him ie director of football whereas he won’t have a problem with a sporting director who doesn’t
