Borussia player Marcus Thuram gets a 6 match ban & 40,000 Euro fine for spitting at an opponent https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/55404596 Is he related to Charlton leg-end Johann Thuram-Ulien, I hear you ask? Yes, he is.
I recall Jamie Stuart talking about his debut as a substitute when the first thing that happened was a player who I deduced to be Bryan Robson spat in his face. Nobby Stiles had an anecdote in his after-dinner show. At Man U he used to room with Denis Law and they were great mates. In his first match against Scotland he went over to Law to greet him in the tunnel before the game. Law spat in his face and said, "Fcuk off you English cnut!"
As Stiles told it at the time Denis Law completely blanked him, just looked right through him as though he didn't recognise him. This seems more likely. Maybe I am biased because Law was my boyhood hero, but I've also met him, and don't believe him capable spitting in someone's face.
Possibly right but not so funny as an afterafter-dinner anecdote ... I guess we shouldn't believe all we hear.
Nobby has embellished the story unfortunately. The original one was what he said at the time. He said "Good luck" and Law just looked through him, which I thought was a decent story as it stood.
