Imo we have probably been the most fortunate team in the entire league when it comes to spending, and I put that largely down to Carr.

We have Krul who came through our youth system for coppers. How much would you have to pay to get a keeper better than him at the moment?

We have Colo who cost £10mill, but is easily worth it.

Then we have Ben Arfa, Cabaye and Tiote, who despite costing £3-5mill, could easily be valued at £15million+ players over time. Easily.

Then there's Santon, who would be worth triple his £5mill fee if he discovers his old form.

Then we're onto Ba and Best. Ba could comfortably be worth £5-10mill but we were lucky enough to get him on a free transfer, and Best, despite his very low price tag, has shown that he can cut it in the league in his own way.

Plus, as someone has already mentioned, Marveaux looks like a real talent who could be worth a tidy sum. He wasn't on his way to Liverpool for no reason.

In my opinion, our starting 11 is worth double or even triple what we paid for them in some cases. No other team can boast that sort of thing, so were EXTREMELY fortunate.

And I firmly believe that if we wanted to improve on players like Ben Arfa, Cabaye or Tiote with proven talents, we would have to start paying the £20-30million fees the top, top clubs pay. Who else could we currently get for less money who is any better than those three?

The league table doesn't lie - we're where we are on credit. I don't see us staying in the top 4... not much of a chance UNLESS our first eleven stay fit ALL season.

It wont happen, it never does. We simply don't have enough quality in reserve to maintain our current position.

As many PL managers will tell you, it's a squad game these days and ours simply isn't strong enough to fight for European competition.

I would say Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea, Liverpool, Tottenham & Arsenal all have stronger SQUADS than us so we might have a very outside chance of scraping 7th.

But by no means are we over achieving - not a bit of it. <ok>

I think you're underselling Jonas a bit by calling him a mid-table winger, also I'd rather Cabaye-Tiote than Modric-Parker, Modric is better than our two but Parker is solid but overrated.

  9. The word overachieving really pisses me off. We've done what we're capable of, which is why were so high in the table. No, we're not going to finish 4th, but where we are now is where we deserve to be.

Outside the top 3 I'd say only Spurs have maybe been better than us, as they did have the two Manchester clubs first two games of the season, and have won their last 4 games.

I'd say the table speaks for itself really. Everyone is where they deserve to be so far.

No way have we over acheived, we have a fantastic team, made some fantastic changes/additions. as HMT stated overachieving is bollocks, we have got some decisions for us i.e wovles. cabaye is much better than barton. he offers far more as in creative side of things. we wont stay top four but that doesnt mean we dont deserve to be where we are atm, i think if we are in top 7/8 by jan, and we make couple additions i.e striker, and replacement for simpson.

Nah we've underachieved. We should be 2 points more because we should have taken 3 at Villa.....................................

weve got players that run at defender now and it's helping, however I think we would struggle if we get a few defensive injuries.

Majorly. Santon would probably have to play centre back if Tayls or Colo got an injury

This is spot on. If we beat the teams around us we are said to overachieve, if we lost to them then no doubt we'd be underachieving.... I'd simply call us a vastly improving team which other teams are slightly underestimating at the moment.

Jonas is a good player but unfortunately he can't do what a winger is there to do very well: cross the ball.

If you take that and the number of assists into account, there are probably some mid table wingers who provide a little more.

Well hopefully with a little consistency this season, we get a good, strong league finish and maybe a good cup run and convince Adam Johnson that Newcastle is the right team for him, because Man City certainly doesn't seem to be. Deluded? Well I'm entitled to be for once.

I think we need to quit the overanalysing and just enjoy winning matches.

Krul is solid along with the central mid pairing, but claming Cab brings more than Nolan and Barton together is leaning out of the window. Nolan scored 15 goals a season and Barton got quite a few assists.

Ba and Best are doing a job too. Obertan and Jonas frustrate me, like all not world class wingers would. The final ball is always lacking. I'd rather have 1 pinpoint cross a game than 10 that go astray. Raylor and Simpson..lower half table defenders.

Colo and Saylor...well, they sucked the year we went down. And they weren't brilliant last season either alongside Willo. So I wouldn't classify them as magnificient. They've found some form. Colos much improved, but always will be prone to falling asleep, and Saylors a bit of a cheat and rash but he does try.

Santon...what can I say, our second best player now huh? How many top tier matches has he started again in his career? ridiculous.

Hatem, sure he was quality in france but come on he's played 4 matches and everyone thinks hes Ronaldo. Give him time to earn some credit.

Marveaux looks exciting, much more tidy than Obertan or Jonas. I'd like Marveaux and Hba on the wings in that team and then we'd really be as strong as Everton or Villa on paper.
