Yes it has, but it doesn't mutate as frequently as influenza does. And we shouldn't have had people going on holiday, the pandemic wasn't/isn't over. It shouldn't have been allowed.

And what about all the people who die from cancer who don't have a positive covid test? If you've got late stage leukaemia and you catch the virus, it will kill you because your immune system is knackered. So the cause of death is the virus, which is why it goes on the certificate.

Absolutely right , and the trouble is as people read more and more of this sensationalist drivel they get it into their heads that this is not a serious disease and the lockdowns aren't needed etc etc .. and this .. is where the problem lies

Anyone with a basic grasp on the figures of what they are now , compared to what potentially the figures would have been if we had not done anything , will know that the sacrifices everyone has made by following the guidance has literally saved tens of thousands of peoples lives .. I really don't get how people can say that lockdowns etc are not needed just because we haven't had tens of thousands more deaths .. the lockdowns etc ARE the reason the deaths are lower than what they would have been , this isn't just a UK thing , the fact the world has done it in general says to me that you treat the threat of this virus seriously and follow the guidance.

I mean lets be honest , there is a great case in point as to how it could be if we didn't , just look at America

It is literally the same article as the one I linked , you have literally proved in your responses exactly what Steven Toast was saying about the media and what I have said about how people just get these ideas in their head and will not accept any facts or figures that go against their opinion

Also if you read the article , the highest rate of transmission in the country was just over 108 per 100000 , I think we all would love to see those rates for Covid 19

(It was York that had the worst transmission figures in the 2017/18 winter flu)

The UK thankfully isn't as prone to playing the victim as Americans are, we don't see ourselves as constantly locked in a battle against an enemy and being oppressed in every way imaginable even when we aren't. British people are pragmatic and, for the most part, realistic. Which is why I find it so baffling that people are railing against lockdowns when, as you said, they're the reason we've saved so many people. The link to the protests against lockdown showed huge crowds of people walking next to each other with no PPE whatsoever. It's the height of irresponsibility. How they feel is irrelevant in the context of a deadly virus. Nobody is going to win this with bulldog spirit or beating their chest and shouting loudly, the virus doesn't care who you are.

Potential deaths are just that, potential, so there's no point people locking onto what might happen in the future. What we should be doing is learning from the mistakes we've made this year, but it really doesn't feel like we are. Like you said, you can point to America as a shining example of what happens when nobody gives a **** and we don't want to end up like that.

So what that says is that if somebody dies and doesn't test positive, but they subsequently get a test back that says they actually had it, it can then be revised to say they died of covid if that's what the post mortem reveals. It doesn't mean that somebody with covid could die of a stab wound and it be recorded that covid killed them.

I'm not sure we know it doesn't mutate as frequently as influenza. Covid variants have far less history than flu variants - meaning humans haven't experienced covid's power of random mutation to the same degree that we are aware of yet. May prove to be more virulent and adaptive than flu.

Again , what are you trying to prove , all those figures do is prove that the guidance and lockdowns when needed have done their job , starting a month after the initial lockdown , the figures have followed the pattern of us doing our bit and following guidelines.

Which bit of America would you have us look at? It's not a place with a single ruler, and each state does it's own thing, some with stricter lockdowns than ours. It's provided a fair bit of data to investigate the effectiveness of lockdowns.

Not trying to prove anything other than.... the data is misleading. Is it more deadly than other flu outbreaks? Time will tell...

    Enjoy that special brew.....

That is IMO half the problem there , they appear rudderless right now , which obviously is not helped with outgoing president currently. The incoming guy is getting his mandate to do country wide regulations and measures which I think will go along way to help them all

You do know levels were already petering off before both lockdowns right ? DMD linked a study earlier on today highlighting that that the strictness or otherwise of lockdowns have no influence of covid mortality rates, ie lockdowns make no difference.

Here's a link to another 22 peer reviewed papers all saying similar from some very respected sources

The federal nature of their system of governance dictates that it is the way it is.

Time wont tell though , as we have brought in unprecedented lockdowns and regulations to make sure we never find out if it is as deadly, If that's the answer you are looking for as to whether it is more deadly or not , then I am sorry to say you will never find out because we listened to the science and brought measures in to make sure we never find out
