I know there's worse things happening at sea,Anyone noticed when commentators and presenters latch on to new cringeworthy buzz worlds in football? I can remember a couple of years ago, Gary Lineker latched on to the world "Seldom" for a few weeks. Tactics became "Philosophy" Martin Tyler keeps using "Enterprise" lately, usually out of context. trying to get down the wing to cross in isn't "a bold undertaking" for example. Any others that anyone has noticed creep in over the past few years?
The thing that annoys me is when fans talk about needing a "CDM". I'm sure it's just come from the FIFA games because I'm pretty certain that about ten years ago we just called them defensive midfielder . No idea why it annoys me but it does.
The group is weird and unnecessary ... ... it's always been a team or a squad. You get a group of people at a bus stop or a women's institute. And why do commentators say 'He just can't stop scoring' ... ... it's idiotic.
I hate it when Gary Neville or Carragher are watching a replay, particularly for foul leading to a pen and they really emphasis the contact.... "He has caught him just THERE" another rewind....."THERE, just THERE" Yes lads, we can see it.
Not a buzzword but it gets on my wick when after seeing a replay for the fifth time the commentator says "oh! It looks like it might have taken a nick on the way through" Yes mate I clearly noticed that the first time I saw it in real time.
or when I keeper clearly finger tips it over and the co commentator says "the keeper mite have got a touch there", when it was obvious straight away.
What gets me is the term "he went looking for the penalty/foul". So in other words, the guy dived or cheated to get an advantage. That's the one thing in the game that seriously pisses me off and should've been stamped out ages ago
Recyling and phase are creeping into football commentary. I like rugby and thats where those phrases need to stay, nothing to do with a football game.
The Leeds player cheated today to get an arsenal players sent off..... none of the commentators called him for it...it was all the arsenal players fault. A team mate of his was going off it at the end. Unless VAR etc gets on top of this, it will get worse!
