When hopefully the Dino gets sacked and when the takeover happens, with reports of the new owners searching for a sporting director last week I would love it if ralf rangnick was interviewed for it and if he wasn’t I hope he gets interviewed for the managers job. He’s looking for another “project” after leaving red bull and would be ideal for us. he unearthed promising young talents including Timo Werner, Naby Keita, Yussuf Poulsen and Erling Haaland. I know we’re in the 1st division and he might just laugh at us but the new owners must have the balls to go out and get the best and I believe this bloke could give us what we all want. I know posters will know about him but for those that don’t have a little read up on him.

Think he might attract clubs further up the food chain .....but if you don't ask the question...why not.

The bloke is as close to a genius as you will find in football at the moment.

I just don't see us being able to put a prospective project to him that's enticing enough personally.

As far as I know he came pretty close to taking over at Milan this summer only to lose out to God (Maldini) consolidating his power.

That's leagues apart from taking over at Sunderland, regardless of who our owners are. I would have thought he will only be looking at projects of that ilk.

    I like your thinking though.

I think it’s what we should be doing with these new owners, you never know giving a very good sales speech to him and he might just think about it for a second, lol

Completely agree efforts should be made to punch out of our weightclass because we are sick of our weightclass.

I would just be shocked if we have the clout to get him on board.

I could see a big Sam or the like.

Really enjoyed reading that, why not go for it, he can only say no.
Who knows, after looking at our setup and telling him of our vision for the next 5 years he might just fancy the challenge.

I'm praying the new owner(s) do have a vision of what they would like to do and not be like SD who talked about one without actually having one, the vision being (a) get for next to nowt and flip and make a fortune - repeat.

If RR isn't achievable then someone of that ilk, having said that I would have big Sam back in a heartbeat but only if he can bring his full backroom team in. The manager having large numbers of his men through the club will help cut through cliques, if they exist. Plus his contacts our second to none and would identify players of far better quality than we currently sign.

The wage cap is an issue but we need to make ourselves unrefuseable to a player to the point where they might turn down £3k per week at Peterbrough and take £2k per week playing for us. If a player and his agent can see we are serious about bombing up the leagues again they would surely take the gamble of joining the ride and double or trebling their wages the season after.

I’m not a big Sam fan as I think he’s a mercenary, don’t get me wrong he was brilliant with us before his England debacle but he took the piss out of us in that friendly against Carlisle where I think where he left at half time. To me that was disrespectful to everyone at the club including fans. Think his time is past and we need to look at certainly better out there.

That's fair. I just think that's the level of name we could potentially get if we sold a big project.

I don't think we can hope for the top echelon unfortunately.

Rangnick looks like a genius in Germany because tactics was something that, until very recently, wasn't considered that important there. See the quote from Felix Magath in the article. The focus was much more on the mindset and psychology of the players, so it looked like people like Rangnick and Klopp were doing something out of the ordinary.

This isn't to say that he's not a good coach or that his ideas aren't sound. He is and they are. But he's espousing ideas that the Dutch and the Spanish (and the Ukrainians- as the article points out) have been working with for years and that are similar to the approaches of people like Bielsa. Rangnick's is just a Germanified version of those. So there are plenty of people out there who could bring similar things. We could appoint, for instance, the Cowleys, who would work in similar ways, are much younger so would have the time to implement a long term project, and would be much more likely to come.

Allardyce would be a realistic prospect too but he think his time has gone. Plus, he's chalk and cheese to someone like Rangnick.

I would be doing back flips of joy if we got Ralf in like. Admittedly, I always thought it was a long, long shot to get him in but someone of his ilk who has been there and got the t-shirt when it comes to building a club up is an essential appointment imo.
