I don't mind how much LB rotates if it gets results. If 4 changes on Tuesday night ends up with 3 points, I imagine we'll both be happy. All I was pointing out earlier was that Bowyer hardly 'rotated' at all yesterday. It was not rotation that cost us 2 points - it was lack of team discipline from Omar Bogle.
He's so much better than Bogle, but he's never fit for long, I think LLB wants to make sure we at least get that 25 minutes out of him.
If Aneke was fit to play 90 minutes week in week out, he would not be playing league one football with Charlton Athletic. His injuries throughout his career have held him back going on to playing in higher division’s
Not really. Aneke isn’t Paulo Di Canio. He didn’t exactly set the world alight in the Championship last season. His touch is heavy & his composure is poor....Championship defenders had him pretty well worked out IMO. He’s a striker to get you promoted out of L1 & then needs binning off.
The man has only started 5 games for Charlton Athletic. All down to him being injured. There is enough quality in his game to do better but needs a clear run away from getting injured
Lee Bowyer needs to show some (justified) faith in Albie Morgan now. It’s benefitting nobody the way he is in and out of the team on a whim. He beautifully set up Aneke’s goal last night, and possesses the creative X factor our other midfielders lack. Work rate can’t be used as a stick to beat him with while Maddison strolls round the pitch. A sensible manager would pull Albie aside today and tell him he’s getting a run of games. Then watch him flourish.
The predictable “Bowyer should be replaced” thread last night elsewhere after that poor result. First defeat in 9 of course after picking up 20 points but either that thread is started off for ****s and giggles or that Bootlegger 1974 Pilsner is too be avoided.
Too much knee jerk reaction from some quarters about Lee Bowyer. He is trying to protect his players by rotating them. I think that we would have got more injuries if he didn't. He didn't ask Gunter to play it into the path of their forward or Amos to pass it straight into the path of their player. We had both our first choice Centre half's out injured. Pearce and Oshilaja were deemed not fit enough to start. We had a midfielder and a right back in central defence, it was an accident waiting to happen. I think the schedule of matches that the EFL and Premier League have asked the players to play is ridiculous. This has been commented on by many managers. Lee Bowyer has credit in the Bank for me and we shouldn't be looking to give him the push after one bad result.
The fixtures are the same for all clubs in League One, and we have bigger & better squads than Gillingham & Burton. We have also had three lengthy breaks for internationals this season - when the vast majority of our squad have not played. Not sure that holds up to be honest. Being “Charlton thru and thru” like LB can’t exempt you from flak when it’s justified. It’s impossible to build up a settled pattern of play with these constant rotational changes. We are Charlton , not Barcelona.
Thomas Sandgaard wants promotion this season. No ifs or buts, no grey areas. What he wants is crystal clear. I no longer think Lee Bowyer can deliver that. Expecially with the squad we have at present. Also, I no longer believe Bowyer & Gallen can fix things in the January transfer window. Too many of their 'summer window' choices just aren't good enough. Season 2028-19 will always be fondly remembered. But that was then (as I think Reams has been saying for some time) and this is now. In my opinion Charlton Athletic's best chance of promotion this seaon lies in a new management team, fully backed in the January window. It's Sangaard's call of course. He's bankrolling all of this - including what happened yesterday.
100% If he adopted the policy of not changing a winning side(which I agree with) then once we lost a game the likes of the @Horrendous Hairpiece and Ivor would be questioning why they were not rested. And now we've got Lee Bowyer
I'm sure LLB would play the same back 5 every game if he could. He did before his 2 best CB's got injured. He's only got 3 strikers, one of whom is never fully fit, but has tried to develop Washington and Bogle as a front 2. They were the best he could get ina short space of time. We all wanted to see what Maddison could do, did we not, so someone has to go. Who? Albie was unlucky, but he rectified it during the game, and if Maddison doesn't pull his weight he won't play, but we had to find ahrt. Apart from Innis and Famewo we also had Pearce and Oshilaja injured as well. That doesn't excuse the first-half horror show, but puts into perspective the defensive situation. Where LLB has questions to answer IMO is how other teams midfielders are more mobile than ours, want the ball more and support each other better. Apart from Albie, Alfie and Pratley I don't see the same hunger in ourn. Last night Maatsen was for a long time the only one trying to drive them on, and he had a bit of an off night.
You have gone from full support for Bowyer and Gallen to no support in one game. Your post is knee jerk in the extreme. Gallen and Bowyer have been working under a strict budget. They have done a great job in getting Shinnie, Maatsen, Famewo, Inness, Gunter, Matthews, Watson etc all who are good players in this League. Bowyer has been working under great duress and difficulty under ESI and Duchatelet. You now want to ditch him and Gallen who we are lucky to have at the first bad result? There is no guarantee that a new Manager would do any better. I must admit I am surprised and shocked by your post @lardiman What price loyalty?
Read his comments below from Sandgaard. Bowyer is not going to get the boot now, next month or January. https://londonnewsonline.co.uk/new-...-reveals-minimum-target-for-team-this-season/
