"The journalist claimed..." <<<<<< That bit is exactly what I was referring to. I don't think it was ever scientifically accepted, in March, that Covid wasn't going to be a pandemic (when it already was declared as such by the WHO), that it was no worse than flu or any of the other cack he said. What the journalist in question did was look at the data they were given and put out their opinion.

He was wrong and has obviously been proven wrong. So, like I said, he should have taken the opportunity to hold his hands up and admit it. If he had done that, he'd have looked a bit of a tit, but at least it would have shown integrity. Instead, he's doubled down on the idea that it isn't dangerous, despite thousands of deaths and illnesses.

It's what the likes of Henegham, Yeadon and Tim Spector who runs the Zoe covid app have also being saying for some while that the pcr test is drastically over inflating positive results, the recent lateral flow tests in Liverpool indicate this could well be true as the lateral flow results are showing there is not the big amount of positive covid cases in Liverpool as previously thought, so yes Fauci is right and he's not the only one to say it.

The thousand of deaths back in March April and May when in the process of freeing up capacity in the NHS they were sending infected patients to care homes, in some cases with false negative test results.

It is dangerous to the old and those with existing medical conditions but for most people it's not. Remember in the summer how many mass demonstrations there were and yet no spikes in the number of infections and deaths.

It will interesting to see how many additional deaths have been caused by the reaction to the virus, if that information ever comes out.

That's a really good point, actually, it certainly will be interesting to look back in retrospect at how dangerous it actually was once this is all over.

That being said, I don't think anybody should be playing it down (not suggesting you are). Yes, people with health problems and the elderly are higher risk, but healthy people can transmit it all the same and I wouldn't like to think I was putting anybody else at risk just because I'm not as likely to die.

Given the fact that flu has(and will be for sometime)been suppressed this year due to most of us following social distancing and the wearing of masks,It's difficult to assess whether or not flu or covid have the higher mortality rate. The elderly among us are and always will be susceptible to respiratory infections and pneumonia .The problem is that the old and infirm are being hospitalised, catching covid in hospitals and being declared as covid deaths when they pass.

Well Prof Ferguson was predicting 500,000 deaths. He has previous for being wildly inaccurate.

No, of course not. It's possible to be somewhere in the middle.

I was all for conserving Channel 5 softcore porn on a Friday night at 11pm, but a change in direction put paid to that. You knew it was going to be good when Shannon Tweed appeared in the opening credits.

Definitely getting too political on this thread now, no need to lock it, but a little tidying is in order, then we've a game to worry about. <ok>

What he says is spot on, trouble is, we live in a "safety first" culture and trying to explain what a PCR amplification cycle is to, say, a nursing home manager isn't going to get you anywhere. Most people don't understand what these test are, how they are performed, what their limitations are and what they are telling you. But, to be fair, I worked for 30+ years in biochemical detection so I know the limitations of PCR and other tests.

New study from Wuhan, zero transmission from people tested positive but asymptotic.

    https://www.nature.com/articles/s41467-020-19802-w

A quote from Fauci from beginning of this year
Fauci 1/28/20: “Even if there is some asymptotic transmission, in all the history of respiratory born viruses of any type, asymptomatic transmission has never been the driver of outbreaks.
