The initial models were not peer reviewed, and despite failing when they were, they were still used.

Other experts in the field have highlighted shortcoming in later models, and a lack of people with the appropriate expertise on SAGE.

They absolutely have, you’re right. But social media has allowed those people to become more mainstream. If you can funnel enough people into alternative facts, they become more of a norm.

If there’s anything shady about Bill Gates of George Soros, it wouldn’t so easily be found. It’s like, wow, the most sensational corruption scandal in history just happened to be blown open by Xmenboy231 on YouTube. That’s handy isn’t it?

It could be worth pointing out that those trying to conflate looking for facts with conspiracy theories, are actually involved in their own conspiracy theories and fake news.

It's those shape-shifting aliens in their secret nuclear bunkers with signposts pointing to them.

Apart from the sign posts, the concept of those nuclear bunkers is amusing. All the big wigs can hide down there and avoid the immediate consequences of Armageddon, to surface when it's safe. And then what?

I can't imagine there'll be many of them that would be of any value in a post apocalypse world. I just picture them staring at each other and thinking 'oh ****' as the realisation of the value of the 'ordinary' people dawns on them.:emoticon-0102-bigsm

My favourite story of a nuclear bunker, is / was one built in a 'local county' in the confines of one of its outlying council offices, after the cold War ended it ended being used as a storage area, cellar, had to be abandoned as it began leaking water... I suppose that's one of thing about these bunkers, very difficult to test their capabilities and after to get a refund...

The one at Patrington had to be altered before it could be opened as a museum, as it didn't meet the safety standards. :emoticon-0102-bigsm

Speak for yourself. I don't think the two publications are mutually exclusive.

Except, those “looking for facts” are only doing so because they don’t believe the scientists in the first place.

It’s okay to question stuff, as long as your search falls within the realms of science and reasoning. The overwhelming majority of people who think the Earth is flat or that vaccines are dangerous don’t understand the science behind the things they don’t believe. So to them, if it’s beyond their comprehension, then it must be a lie or a cover up. Which is just ridiculous. I don’t fully understand how medicine is synthesised, it doesn’t mean I don’t believe it works or trust the people who prescribe it.
