What's that got to do with a Sainsbury's Christmas advert?

So, if there was an advert that was produced by Sainsburys featuring Italians only, Christmas advert......would you see it as just a family enjoying Christmas or an Italian family enjoying Christmas? Be honest!! My observation and comments would have been exactly the same...... After all, We are in England
If you've not read my other recent posts.....maybe I should point out. My mother was Italian, (Sicilian) I still have plenty of family still living in Italy, I was brought up with strong Italian values and traditions. lucky enough to embrace their wonderful food etc. (I wouldn't take much notice of Robs usual flawed judgements) But I am also English, I live in England and think it's only right & fair that it is proportionally represented. All of my posts were trying to be fair and inclusive and not exclusive to be fair but seems to have be turned into a racist slur!!

Mate how on earth are you not being represented? You're a white (maybe?), heterosexual (maybe?) male, if so you're the most represented type of person that could possibly exist!

1for <ok> .. you are not the only one to make the observation … "seems to have be turned into a racist slur!" LOA does not appear to have any comprehension of what racism is, if he does, then he is deliberately then trying to invoke it into the conversation, to provoke others to bring it up, maybe disguising his own feeling or attitude? and perpetuates it by getting people feeding off the crumbs he is sprinkling around.

It's a Christmas advert with a single family enjoying Christmas, The way you are speaking you either what a white family or a cast of thousands to get everyone proportionally represented.

England, not me.....and we are talking about a particular advert at a particular time of the year for a particular christian occasion that could have been less controversial.....don't you agree?

So you think it could have been less controversial if they didn't just use a black family? Are you only going to be happy if adverts only ever contain white people?

Had a word with one of colleagues this am … we all read this forum time to time and this thread came up today...
one colleague was asked what do you think about the advert?
answer was " I think it is great" but "if I was white, probably expect it to be a white family" however my family has Black and white relatives so they probably would expect that to be represented. So the reality is none can be truly happy with a single scenario!
so how could you represent it fairly? ........ that is difficult … a black or a white father? 2 children or 3 that would cover the mixed race aspect but then gender? but what do I actually think? " well, goodwill to all men, irrespective of colour or race. And goodwill to all men/women and children of course in OUR time of celebration.

I just look at our first team squad, 26 players photographed, 10 are black, they feature all and everyone in all of our publicity shots and promotional events, it doesn't mean a thing to me, I bet 80% plus of our fan base is white, we still go, black, white, pale or dark skinned, we don't care, we support Bristol City FC and that's what counts.

Same applies to advertising, I shop in Aldi and Sainsbury, I like Kevin the Carrot and the Black Family, makes no difference who is in the advertising, I buy on need, quality, price and availability, bloody stupid argument.

What wiz said basically. I honestly cannot even remotely fathom how different ethnicities in an advert would even come close to bothering anyone.

You really have no idea do you? You're talking about fairness and people not be truly happy about a bleeding Christmas advert showing a single family. If people think the advert is not fair or they are unhappy about it then they should be having a serious look at themselves as I would like to think that a majority of people are perfectly ok with it.

SORRY <sorry> … you either don't get it, understand it or don't want to.
besides putting, well trying to unsuccessfully, WORDS in my mouth, you now intimate I am at odds with the Sainsbury advert where in my text does it say " I am at odds with the SAINSBURY ADVERTISEMENT" I have simply made comments that are devolved from issues pertinent to the difficulty of presenting ads as representative of proportional representation. I realise I am falling into your bated hooks and crumb trail so last comment ...please rummage around in the bottom of your box and try and find a door …:emoticon-0160-movie

Because Christmas is supposed to be for everyone!!

Anyway, Now that you've all come to the conclusion & judgement, that I must be a typical Brit, that hates other cultures with racist views.
I have a question for whoever wants to answer!!
Do you all honestly believe, or are gullible enough to think that Sainsburys produced this Christmas advert with such lovely, honest, sincere, genuine & kind, festive intentions just showing a family enjoying themselves at Christmas without intentionally, creating a very clever but contentious marketing ploy knowing that it would cause a talking point for maximum effect?
