Crossed my mind the other day what with all the talk of avoiding a hard border in Ireland would the EU accept an indy Scotland due to the need for a hard border in Britain?

Could you clear this up @Alec

Most Yes nutters wants a hard border between Jockistan and Nigelshire ...

    be a tough one ...

If Scotland was to become independent , I’d rather we followed the Norway model

they share borders with EU countries

Aye, currency run by the Bank of England, and the Government decisions made in Brussels. That's true independence. <ok>

If Scotland was independent, what would stop Scotland from setting up and issuing money from a central bank ?

I’m assuming it would not have value and would need to be tied to an active currency ?

Not having any money to issue would be one initial hurdle.

The Scottish government can act as guarantor for any Scottish currency just like every other nation that doesn't have a central bank. Scotland already has currency in circulation so... winner winner chicken dinner.

The Bank of England will control interest rates but the Scottish tax payers will have to bail out your failed banks.

You can print trading coupons and try to describe them as money, but good luck trying to represent that on an international market without proof of faith to back it up. It takes years to do that, and Scotland are starting from less than scratch. What they laughingly describe as 'their' money, is simply a cheque. It works on a local level, but is meaningless beyond that.

When it joins it will not be independent, so why does Scotland want independence, from its biggest buyer of goods?
