I know it was only Iceland, but it was refreshing to see so many English players prepared to take an opponent on.
Plenty of good movement and how it wasn’t 5 or 6 - 0 before halftime is a mystery.

I think having Grealish, Foden and Sako in the team is pretty exciting

Mount also good but maybe played a little safe at times

Pleased we also played some longer balls later. You can’t always pass your way through a defensive opponent

Need Vardy or Sterling back to get behind the defence

England have got some seriously talented youngsters. You just wonder what a great coach could do with them. Actually, we are seeing it. Foden under Pep is a great example. He is flourishing under his guidance. Unfortunately I don't think Southgate and his tactics are right for this group of players.

We're also seriously lacking in central defence and midfield, which is why we'll never win anything with this squad.

Central defence, yes. Although it would help if Keane and Maguire were dropped. Permanently. Play 4-2-3-1, Coady and Mings at CB, TAA and Chilwell as full backs. Rice and JWP in midfield, Grealish in the number 10 position, Sterling and Sancho out wide with Kane up top.

Midfield is bang average too compared to the best sides. You think a midfield two of Prowsey and Rice would cope against the likes of France or Spain?

I don't get the hype with Rice at all if I'm honest, and as much as James has improved recently, I still don't look at him as a player who's a top international who's going to be part of a tournament winning side.

Fact is that centre back and central midfield are two of the most important positions on the pitch; you won't regularly control big games without a top midfielder, and you'll always concede goals with poor defenders.

They just happen to be the areas we're lacking top talent. We're fine for attacking players and full backs.

Possibly true, but I’ll say this, a while ago I didn’t think JWP was good enough to play for us let alone England and Rice is improving, so .... maybe ....

oh bugger, you’re right but it’s good to have some good creative players available

Rice is only 21 don't forget - he's 4 or 5 years away from his peak.

Apparently it was an anti-English video intended to motivate the Irish team, but crossed over into racism.

True, at the moment he is parboiled Rice, but could easily turn out to be wild Rice, especially if he gets into some sticky Rice situations.

Hopefully the his club won't Pilau him to do so though.
