Wales v Finland Competition - Nations League Date Wednesday 18th November 2020 Kick off - 7.45pm Venue - Legoland aka Leckwith Following their hard fought victory over the Republic of Ireland on Sunday evening, next up for stand-in Manager Robert Page’s Wales squad is a ‘winner takes all’ match against Finland in the final game of the group. Last Sunday, the visitors edged a cagey first half, with chances scarce as these familiar foes looked like they might replicate last month's insipid goalless draw in Dublin. Wales eventually came to life midway through the second half, David Brooks nodding in from close range after Gareth Bale's looping header across goal. Brooks was denied a second goal by an outstanding save by Darren Randolph before Bale and Kieffer Moore missed further chances for the hosts, who extended their unbeaten run in competitive matches to 10. Republic midfielder Jeff Hendrick was sent off in added time for bringing down Tyler Roberts as he appeared to have a clear run on goal. Whilst Wales were winning, Finland were beating Bulgaria 2-1 thanks to 2 first half goals courtesy of Pukki and Lod. Iliev pulled a goal back for Bulgaria via a penalty. After these 2 matches, the group table stands as follows: So on Wednesday, Finland have to win to top the group whilst Wales need to avoid defeat to remain at the summit. Wales will be again without Joey Allen and Aaron Ramsey, and will he further depleted by the suspension of Ben Davies who was booked against the Irish. I think that Wales can overcome these absentees, and secure a 1-1 draw and thereby top the group.
Thanks Taff. I hope we don't play it too safe but I think the knowledge that a point will do will have an effect. So its 1-1 for me too.
Thanks Taff. The trouble with playing for a draw is that you allow the opposition to control the game create lots of chances normally and score enough to win ....we need to dictate the play not sit back a la Sunday. Go for the jugular and give us supporters bothering to watch some cheer...we will win by two goals
I agree with you lot. I think we can get a draw but not by playing for one. A win would be most enjoyable though!
Need to step up tonight, I think Finland will be up for it, they will be confident having beaten Italy and Bulgaria in the previous games
What a bloody shot, something you could have expected from Bale........ But James, what a bloody shot
