It's a similar meaning but means 'get his teeth into' rather than 'cut his teeth'.

I once tried a translation of 'by the skin of my teeth' here and everyone looked blank at me <laugh>

This is where we fail time and again and Donald has proved it by his 'new lamps for old' policy.

Anyone can spot an ageing player who's scored, or played well, elsewhere.

Spotting an SKP is where you become a genius, not just hoping for a Genie ...

We’d be bust within 18 months if he actually owned us. Saying that, he wouldn’t pass the fit and proper persons test.

Exactly, I think it's a positive either way. Let's just hope it happens soon so we can move on from the current mob

Unpopular as it is that’s why I think people need to cut Dobson some slack. Under say Poyet I think we’d see what he’s made of. As a combative midfielder which is what Parkinson wants its not playing to his strengths but he has to do it to get a game. At his age and experience he fits the bill for development but rather than the fat Maguire’s and *** ash Powers and the manager getting the stick he gets it. People need to cut him some slack.

Think it’s gone to arbitration, against the law what they’re doing so hopefully it’ll get sorted when the case comes up, I’m sure in the meantime that the kind of legal men at the new owners disposal would run rings around whatever the efl have tried to do and I’m sure they could be loads of loopholes just waiting for a brainy person to get his teeth into.

I am not sure on Dobson, his first game for us I thought he looked a class above, his moved the ball quickly and covered the ground well. His running style doesn't do him any favours, he looks like a carthorse in a field of thoroughbreds but that shouldn't be an issue if he was effective.

It could be the role he is asked to play doesn't suit him, his first game he played box to box but since then he has played more defensively.

Same could be said about quite a few of our players. How many players in our squad have done really well at the last clubs and will no doubt go on to do well at their next club?

It all comes down to the tactics and our style of play.

You don't have to convince me marra.. The River is a massive asset but its a shame the council don't see it.

There was the odd game last season when confidence was high that his distribution was superb so he had it in him. Poyet would get it out of him. He made Catts like Zinade (a bit like Zidane)

This. They don’t become a crap player just because they’ve signed for Sunderland. The crapness is coached into them after they arrive.

Might not be a bad shout getting him in as a coach now hes retired. Catts not Zidane obviously. We are probably still paying him a wage.

I wasn't having a pop at you mate.

I'm not from Sunderland and, apart from the club, have no historical links, coming from the wild west of Durham.

But I like Sunderland and would love to see real money go into it. If you come in, along the river, from the A19 you can picture how fantastic it could be.

Never mind, Boris said he'd sort all that out.

Zidane with Phillips and Catts as assistants. I’ve heard madder on here. Seriously though I’d see Catts being a more likely successful manager than Phillipsy because he has a ruthless mentality .

Agents are sadly ruining football and should be banned from having so much influence. Think the agents will try fleece the club more if they believe club has money otherwise they'll tell the agent to move elsewhere as they have too much power these days as proved by Maja.

I think the likes of Catts & Keane could do a job in this league and possibly the championship but whether they could control what are usually at least millionaires in the Prem I am not sure.

I never took it as having a pop...There is so much more to Sunderland than what lots of people perceive, that in the main is down to years of a labour council that knows no bounds... The infighting and conduct of labour Councillors in the City have held us back for over fifty /sixty years. Things are changing though.. the similarities between the LA and the directors of SAFC are like matching book ends. Next time we are back home in Barca, I'll give you a shout for a pint, neighbour

Agents can only be sorted by the governing bodies, clubs and the law working together.
