And, isn't that perception part of the problem, this is what FPP wanted to change. That river is a massive resource that's totally under used and appreciated. It could, and should imo, be a big part of the club. Let's have a park & ride licensed ferry and an escalator
Didn't realise there was also a Club Atletico River Plate in Uruguay as well as the Argentina one. I wonder what the thinking is behind that. I can see the appeal in investing in us with a potential return if we can get back into the premier, but a Uruguayan club already in their top division? Maybe it's to be our South American feeder club...... Whatever reason though, I'd guess it was linked to our purchase and something to benefit us in the future (or at least I hope).
What this arrangement would be useful for is buying then loaning players to circumvent spending caps and wages. The Standard Liege connection is significant as well imo. Multiple ownership, in various countries, are how clubs like Man City muddy the waters.
please log in to view this image I see a young Gus Poyet used to play for River plate. Canny strip as well
Right. That makes more sense. I guess there is also the potential influence Sartori could have over the Uruguayan FA too, so Uruguay would be a good fit
L'equipe are reporting that Kyrils mam has told him to cut his teeth at Sunderland before asking an investment in Marseille. Seems odd as he already gets involved there
Well... This isn't something I've heard but 1 thing is for certain is that even wealthy benefactors have an angle, for man city it was sport washing, for Chelsea it was because their owner wanted a bigger public profile so of he's killed it's more likely to be investigated and therefore reduces the potential. For others it's to change the game totally, football and English football in particular has shown itself to be almost unshakable in its growth despite multiple worldwide recessions since 1992, football is a way to diversify your money but it's also pretty safe and certainly safer than stocks in pretty much anything else. Wealthy owners are now looking to build on that by owning clubs all over the world, it builds the club brand and could increase to a worldwide game where Sunderland fans become River plate fans or vice versa, it also means if half the world ends up at war they can protect their money in other places that are safer. It needs more intensive management than a wealth manager at a Swiss bank though so they need to enjoy as well, like a gold watch which looks nice but also means they can carry more wealth for hard times.
loads of people have seen what city and red bull have done and want to replicate it. I can imagine we may be the first of many they buy - with french and Swiss clubs to follow. Perhaps invest into an MLS team as well but unsure how that works
Pie in the sky stuff but imagine if they offered Marwood the chance to get his local club back to the big time AND re-build what he’s done with City Football Group whilst living in the north east near his family.
