I gave you a chance to apologise in PM, but you choose to stick to your lie. I have near total recall, here are the last words to be written about me on ITTV. ffs: Has Gelan been banned? Dick Plumb: No he's deleted his account. Dick is many things but he is not a liar. NB: I don't mind the hate directed at me, better than any of you ending up hurting someone that cares a stuff.
Exactly my thoughts. How many times have you said you hate Duchatelet? Ten, a hundred, a thousand? We heard you first time, you didn't have to go on a recruitment drive which you needed to give you belief in your lone and self defeating boycott. Religions do the same thing, because they have no tangible proof of their belief system, and neither did you. Most I speak to in PM feel sad that you missed some great matches, nobody really has a good laugh about it. People are kinder than your narrow views allow you to see. NB: I don't hate you lot, and if you read correctly I said "hate directed at me" I just thought that maybe things like "You're a cnut" "You're mentally ill" "You're a pathetic human being" "I'm going to delete any post that offends me" we're not loving comments. If you think those phrases are indeed terms of endearment, then I can only surmise that you talk to everyone in that way.
Elfs won't see your reply, he has you on 'ignore'. He is not a sage or a philosopher either, nor does he pretend to be one. He's a football fan who just loves his Club. Duchatelet hurt CAFC. Thousands of supporters were extremely angry about that, and a popular way of expressing anger among working class people who don't pretend to possess all the wisdom of the universe is to use words like 'hate'. Duchatelet is widely reviled for what he did, he is despised and hated by many Charlton fans. You may believe that to be wrong, but many of us have no problem with feeling that way about him and will never forgive the old scrote. You haven't ever done anything to hurt CAFC (obviously not, you're a fellow fan) and nobody holds any animosity towards you of the kind they feel towards Duchatelet. The reactions you get on every fans' forum you post on are just down to some of the unpopular points of view you have, and the way you present them. Other Charlton fans don't hate you. But many of them aren't going to waste their time trying to express exactly why they find some of your ideas and opinions offensive and aggravating. They're just going to fire back one line dismissals and insults, as you are very well aware. You choose to disrupt conventional modes of thinking and challenge values that most other people take for granted. There's nothing wrong with that as such - indeed it is healthy for a society to have its values challenged in order that they do not eventually become shackles that restrain all free thought (something which has sadly happened in too many places around the world). But you must also be aware that challenging conventions and values is by definition unpopular, and will gain you few friends. Moreover, this forum, or ITTV or CL or any other Charlton fans' forum, is not a philosophical debating society for academics and free thinkers to deconstruct conventional wisdom and look down their noses at it. These are forums for fans. Many of whom are salt-of-the-earth straightforward people who know what's right and what's wrong, and know what they like and what they dislike. And a lot of them dislike being told (in so many words) that they're thick. And that their troubles and suffering - especially during this pandemic - are their own fault. You may not specifically intend to be that judgmental, but some of the stuff you post gives the strong impression that you feel yourself to be morally and intellectually superior. Added to which you claim to be free of base emotions like hatred (again underlining your apparent superiority to the rest of us) while many of the opinions you post show no regard for the feelings, values and sensibilities of others. If you genuinely don't understand the emotions of resentment and hostility, perhaps that explains why you generate so much of them in some other people. People, even common working class folk who just love their football, know when they're being talked down to. And they don't like it.
Trite references to the pandemic # 1 ... silly TV show trailers. "These are extraordinary times, we're looking for extraordinary chefs" (Masterchef: the professionals)
I'm no accountant, but it appears to me that the world is borrowing an awful lot of money from itself during the pandemic.
Infection rates up by 10,000 in a single day to more than 30,000 in the last 24 hours. Fatality rate still climbing as well. Beginning to look like the three tier rules were not working. Too early to tell if the full lockdown is working yet. We need about another 10-12 days...
Some of my London relatives have been confirmed in the last two days of having covid and I’ve got to say it hasn’t surprised me one bit , the younger members in their twenties have been carrying on like it doesn’t exist (Instagram evidence) - I’m glad I’ve kept my distance!
I read that Dominic Cummings is leaving his job in a few weeks. I wonder if the power struggle behind the scenes at No.10 has anything to do with the Government's decision to put England back into Lockdown, and restore the 80% furlough scheme until March 2021. If it was, and if Boris Johnson had to force those decisions through, he has my gratitude. Personally I think the second lockdown was the right thing to do, and the restoration of the furlough scheme was also the right call. (note: I originally posted this in the news & current affairs thread, but it belongs here really)
News just in - where are the highest Coronavirus infection rates in the UK now being found? Secondary schools. Full of kids & teenagers who go home every evening and mix with family members, many of whom have to go to work every day (assuming they aren't furloughed). Lockdown 2 was right in my view. But close the schools as well Boris.
No, there is very little consistency in what is going on. The secondary school in my town has been closed this week. Several teachers tested positive. My money is on being allowed to open pubs and restaurants for one month between 4th December and 4th January, to avoid civil unrest, and then being put back into lockdown for several months more. But others will continue with business as normal.
Whilst boring the backside off me yesterday, the @Appalling Rug said that he had forgotten his face covering. Two minutes later he boarded a train
15th November update; Tables at the beginning of this thread updated. Infection rates seem to have stopped rising in the UK. I think we'll see declining infection rates by 2nd December. But will the 'R' rate be low enough to end the lockdown on schedule? I doubt it. We might need another 2 weeks of lockdown, which would take it to 16th December. Perhaps that would allow some modest room for rule easing over Christmas.
