Yeah - I forgot that we are totally self sufficient and don't need to import anything into our wonderful isle.
I understand that and we're in a similar position here as is New Zealand. Shutting the borders to domestic travellers earlier would have made a difference. We closed them here yet allowed freight etc to still enter with tight restrictions on the crew. Even shut the internal borders to limit the spread. Iirc the UK didn't shut its borders until there were already 34,000 dead.
And yet the 'second wave' hit both Victoria and NSW. It missed Queensland altogether because they were more successfull in closing their borders. I don't know how the other States did. The fact is that each Country or 'State' is having to learn as it goes along. Australia is a good example of this. How three States, all on the same coast, had different outcomes. Lets hope that the lessons learned are never forgotten.
The states that actually shut their borders also had the majority of the people do the right thing as well. Victoria's 2nd wave had a lot to do with people ignoring the social distancing rules such as attending a BLM protest (about 40k from memory) and a large cluster in the north western suburbs which i believe was related to a mosque.
Just had an email that my daughters teacher has tested positive and my daughter has to isolate for 14 days. Apparently me and the rest of the house can carry on as normal?
I think the sensible thing is for us as a family to self isolate, it may seem extreme but on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday I have to be either on site or in the office and I don't believe it to be worth the risk
And then watching the news today, yet again it’s Melbourne letting themselves down. A beach party in direct contravention of the Victorian COVID rules. These will be the same people who, when lying up in a hospital bed having contracted the virus, still won’t accept any responsibility for their actions.
Agree mate. We've just been advised that we're going into partial lockdown from midnight. The frustrating thing is that the person that they believe has spread it probably wasn't doing anything wrong. They were working at a Medi Hotel and although showing no symptoms have passed it onto family members who in turn have passed it onto others. Frustrating thing is that i believe 2 cases have been traced to the Christmas pageant held at the weekend with 25,000 in attendance. Looks like i'm off to the bottle shop again
This government is absolutely rotten and just using this crisis to throw money around , very sad. One of their chosen ones has, so far, been paid £21m for doing virtually nothing. £21 million for another priveledged nose in the trough while they're planning to increase parking charges for NHS staff going to work. Sad times indeed.
My Dad and Step Mum tested positive for Covid, last Tuesday. On Friday morning my Dad found my Step Mum dead in bed. My Dad is now in hospital on a ventilator. He might not see out today. I'm against the lockdown and this is why... My Dad and step mum live in a house off a country lane and you couldn't even throw a stone and hit the next house. The virus still found it's way into their home through the carers for my step mum (not their fault). The virus is spreading through carers to people that are isolated and locked down. Meanwhile cancer diagnoses are down, kids educations are lacking and mental health issues are going through the roof. Continue to tell the vulnerable and over 65's to lock down but everything else needs to open up. I genuinely believe that this supposed prevention is doing more damage in total than covid would do on its on if everything returned to normal.
