    good points all.

i'd forgotten about the bus incident there.

suarez dribbleing... I work off of the 70 points are good for 4th and get 8 point sof out 12 so those games are big ones but i nthe end if we win the others around them they become less significant in terms of 4th... thinking any higher and they become more important for sure.

    NUFC fan here.

Some fair comments. Even Newcastle fans don't think we'll stay in 4th place forever. In fact, I hate to put my team down, but it just isn't going to happen, is it? Beyond that though, we're fair game for any of the positions (although Liverpool may get in the way of 5th).

It's just a shame that "moreinjuredthanowen" had to sour the thread with a disrespectful and arrogant comment. I won't wish poor results against Liverpool because of him though as it's just one fella and everyone else has largely been fair.

PS: If we beat Spurs, I do hope some people take us as more serious contenders for one of the spots just outside of the top 4. I'm not saying we will at all, but IF we do, then I'm hoping we get some credit.

    Fixed it for you <ok>
I agree it's too early to predict at this stage.
Still think Arse will haul themselves up and be more of a threat than we're giving them credit for at the moment, but- we'll see.

Although some of you may be reluctant to say it I'd be very suprised if you didn't manage 4th this season. You had improved your squad this year so I don't see a problem for you to achieve 4th although it may have been different had Arsenal not been so **** so far but I doubt it <ok>

    Newcastle fan here...

There's absolutely no way we'll be threatening the Champions League places so I wouldn't worry about that.

On the evidence I've seen so far, I fancy Tottenham to finish 4th, but it's going to be between them, Liverpool and probably Arsenal when they get their act together.

Any top half finish and I'll be happy.

ha ha..... I just knew i'd catch a fish with my comment.... <laugh>

god.... don't you guys see the most obvious dangled lines... and i only did it half heartedly... its no wonder the likes of lettuce and *coughs* king eric love to hang round looking for reactions...

but seriously... king eric as an "unbiased" opinion from outside the race from 4th has it right. after spending so much and seeing arsenal finally collapse 4th is there for us. If we can get the required points. right now its a striaght shot between us and tottenham and as much as newcastle fans may want it i'm sorry but your manager and owner are having a nice run of it right now but 4th? come on. i've given good examples earleir of clubs who've had good good runs up to christmas then falling behind as the fixtures/injuries/suspensions pile up.

concentrate on a safe midtable and hope ashely sells up mate.

We aren't going to get 4th. No one said we will. Just the manner in which you've said it is pretty arrogant.

Liverpool and Spurs are highly, highly likely to pip us to 4th and 5th unless one of the sides implodes for whatever reason. I think we have a shot at any of the spots below that though.

I can't believe people have even bothered bringing us up into this, we may well be 4th right now but there won't be a chance we'll be close to 4th by the end of November. Think Liverpool will just beat Tottenham to it, Tottenham scraped past an awful Arsenal and got absolutely battered by United.

The Geordies have had a good start to the season, but so far have only played one top-6 team in Arsenal, and they are just a shadow of their former selves. Once they've played the Citeh and the Mancs we'll see just what kind of legs they've got.

But cudos to them - you can only beat the team in front of you...

Get fourth? Its us or Arry's mob for that spot. L'Arse are just not going to turn it around fast enough, I don't think the Geordies have the legs for it, and I can't see anyone else emerging from the pack to challenge at this stage.

TBH I think in spurs first choice 11 they edge us in terms of quality of players however I think our squad is quite strong overall this season and factoring regular injury problems with Bale, King, Lennon and Van der Vaart theres a good chance we will be above them. I do think the starting 11 needs improvment though, If you look at a starting line up of Friedel,Walker,Dawson,King,Ekoto,Lennon,Parker,Modric,Bale,Van der Vaart, Adebayor I think spurs fans would honestly say they'd only have 2 or 3 players of ours in that line up probably Suarez, Enrique and Gerrard

Strange! I certainly wouldn't take Friedel, Walker, King, Lennon, Parker Van der Vaart or Adebayor from their squad.

There's a lot of football to be played yet.

<bows in exaggerated flouish of pomposity>

chappaz.... learn the difference between cheeky fishing on an open thread and arrogance please! <laugh> oh there i go fishing again.... At least acknowledge the fact i've highlights cases such as sunderland with kevin phillips, hull and even blackpool as examples of clubs who've gotten off to a flier.

Being serious though.... Yes you've good players in places like we had but hey on 606 newcastle fans never shut up when our times were bad so i am not going to apologise for not thinking a club thats shed its best players and a good manager for alan pardew is going to (despite its fabulous stadium and fans) finish in the top half. I am entitled to that opinion and backed it with reasonable examples..... I still wish newcastle the best every year despite some wums you guys had on 606.

lets compare..... spurs and liveprool then player for player.... welshred... it could be interesting.

    1. freidel v reina. both good keepers, spurs have improved here but he's on his last legs. reina offers something special
    2. Johnson v walker. Actually its a debate who's best at RB for both clubs. walker looked good on loan last year. johnson is injury prone. I'd put us even
    3. Enrique v ekoto. you know what, bargain thanks newcastle fans! I think we are better off here than they are, but again both good players, enrique better defense
    4. Carragher v Dawson. nether the best, carrghers legs are gone and dawson is not a top line defender. just my opinion
    5. Agger v king. agger can be brillinat if fit, so can king. king is playing less and less....
    6. Lucas v parker. a lot of bias can come in here. lucas has big fans and big detractors, parker is a sideways passer. All in all i'd say spurs may shade this one
    7. Adam v modric... and easy call here given adam being less than stellar so far.
    8. Kuyt v lennon. kuyts stats show him being every effective in goals and assists, lennons pace looks good but the final ball is awful. I don't like wtahcing kuyt but he shades this
    9. Downing v bale. Bale of the 20 corsses and hope one connects school... over all i think downing has been slightyl dissappointings so far... but bale has been injured last year.. i'll give it to spurs.
10 suarez v defoe. no contest, suarez is souch an impact he's just different class
    11. carroll v adebayor. so far adebayor is better... but... how long till the courting of another club starts?

so to sum up. spurs look better in midfield as evidenced by adam being destroyed v spurs. we're even over the rest of the park more or less and have gerrard to come in and they have VDV too.

spurs can say what the like about only taking 2/3 playrs out of our line up cos to be frank i'd only take 2 of thier line up to improve us and those would be modric and bale even though i'e given bale a few digs (no spurs fans awake)

People keep talking down Newcastle squad, however we have Ben Arfa. Santon and Marveaux on the bench and to be honest they will get in the forst team. I agree 7th is the best we can hope for but for people to simply disregard our start is a tad bitter if I'm honest. We were lucky against Wolves but we have had 65% possesion in some games.

Howay the toon and howay Andy Carroll.

    Peace brothers

    Man U
    Chelsea
    City
    Spurs
    Liverpool
    Arsenal

    In that order.

Newcastle will finish mid table which I'd be chuffed to bits with considering the lack of investment. Dreading January if we are still performing well as Cabaye, Tiote, Ben Arfa and Coloccini will all get snaffled.

That must have taken ****ing ages!

I'm actually going to the Newcastle - Spurs game on Sunday with my mate, so I will be celebrating any goal/result from Newcastle. I can see Newcastle getting a result, I think you guys will be on a good run until at least Xmas time.
