If only that were so, it is actually down to one very vocal section of society, just like revisionism the good old white middle class liberal and of course if you disagree with them then you are racist.
after my dinner I watched a programme by Josh Gates one set of adverts had from what I could see 4/5 adverts but no white people … it was so noticeable my missus said "I am getting really p*****d o*f with having that forced down my throat all the time nowadays"..... I posted earlier the experiences of a family that is of mixed heritage / mixed race if they do not know then who does what terms we should use!
This could have been my answer. It is not society. It is a Orwellian vicious oppressive damaging interpretation of liberalism.
Society deems it as offensive, rightly or wrongly (well, wrongly). Or at least those in power feel societal pressure to act on it.
Again you give society too much credit. It is mainly the entitled metropolitan elite white middle class liberals, the same people who have zero respect for democracy, if they don't like the results of democracy they try to get their own way (because they are used to that in life) by other means and usually at huge cost to the tax payer. And sadly a lot of people who make decisions are too frightened to stand up and say it's wrong. I repeat that is exactly how the Asian grooming national scandal was allowed to carry on in an industrial scale. Mentioning society implies that these people are a majority, far from it, the last general election proved that.
No society does not. Society is a construct. The totalitarian element of a society wants this individual punished and deems it necessary that his career ruined, society as a whole does not.
The point would be this man was punished due to his semantics. He committed wrong speak. He is not a racist homophobe but due to that wrong speak he has to be punished by am element of society who think they are the moral arbiters of what is right and wrong. Note jiffies point about democracy. Societies make decisions via reprsentative democracy. These democracies have laws created by them. This individual is being punished and ruined by a twisted interpretation of liberalism, a form that believes it is societies arbiter of power not democracy.
It's not semantics, 'society' needs to be a majority to be classified as 'society', do you honestly believe these people are the majority? All it is is their version of 'society' and one they are trying to impose on the true majority.
I expect Greg can't wait for Coloured Friday. It's a wonder Lammy hasn't claimed the day as a national holiday.
You are all wrong it is nothing to do with general liberals or parts of society, down to one mans interpretation in this uneasy clime we are in.... as posted elsewhere, should a person who is neither black or white not know what "class she falls into" what hope the rest of us. I reckon his terminology was accurate, however in the present clime he may have found a better way of expressing himself. BCFC Rob also very guilty of the self same thing and a number on here jumped on him! there is no book or pamphlet issued by the law lords that says … it is an offence to call a person who is ….. blah blah blah …. humans are diverse, have their own interpretations of what they see or say... go to an art gallery where people swoon over an abstract piece of art, maybe very colourful, maybe bland. My friend has a 40 ft container full of canvasses his value on it £250k.. one large picture of over 1.5 sq m is tagged at £9k he has sold 2 others all done in the same 2 hour period. showed me his technique 3 canvasses 6 brushes different sizes largest 30mm 6 tubes of paint... get set go …. mix and match from canvass 1 to 3 in rotation , then 2 3 1 then 3 1 2 etc each brush colour starts the next sequence, each brush uses 3 colours before being cleaned... £4.5k an hour aint bad … my point probably over 2000 people have seen these canvasses only 1 bought … a dozen offers of less been turned down.. [I had a go a 2ft x 2ft ish one, sold eventually at a car boot fair for £65 was on sale for £250 originally … cost was about a fiver.. so freedom of speech ...where has that gone
Of course it is semantics. If something is 'socially frowned upon' it doesn't necessarily mean a majority hold that view. By definition it might (I have no idea), but in reality how on earth do you measure that. I know what I meant. You know what I meant. As usual when I post on here people seem to think putting my opinions down is more important than talking about the actual subject anyway so do feel free to actually go back to the bloody topic once again at any point .
OK i'll play your game, how about this?, I am sure that your comment was meant as sarcasm, but for somebody who loves to use emoji's, how do we know that in this case?, I have never met you or you me, but it's easy to say afterwards that it was sarcasm. I watched a so called black female comedian on BBC 2 make a comment about wanting to 'kill whitey' nobody picked her up on at the time but what if somebody on that programme had made the same comment replacing white with black? It's a minefield created by one small part of society, who only want free speech for themselves.
Ouch. In regard to the adverts we have noticed the trend towards anybody but white to sell products and although I praise the attempts to right the racial ship I think it is sinking fast and will disappear below the waves soon. What is the right balance is the key question and regretfully I, and the rest of the population, don't have a clue because I think you will find the harder you try the worse it will get and that will be put down to over zealousness on the part of those claiming to be the targets. As an example it's like sending your government's money to Nigeria to stop corruption and we all know what happened to that nice earner for the already well corrupted. Please stop the kneeling for the "black lives matter" campaign because if you truly think that demonstration will change things at all then give me a call because I have a pineapple plantation up for sale in Inuvik. N.W.T., and you may find that an interesting proposition. On the same type of subject I have noticed the radical change in the face of your police departments and please don't tell me it wasn't deliberately directed that way to serve the purpose of which we talk. Soothe the savage beast seems to be the order of the day but perhaps one day it will turn and bite you on the bum.
What is the difference between semantics and meaning? “Meaning” is specific. It refers to what a word, sentence, paragraph, essay, speech or book conveys to you. ... “Semantics” can mean either the study of meaning in general, or how the meanings of words within a work relate to each other.
