Just out of interest how long ago was this ? It's something that genuinely interests me as I'm not seeing any young asian boys/girls playing in the local junior football league that my son plays in. There are plenty of black kids that play although I've noticed they tend to play for certain clubs and then either half or more the team will be black and the coach as well. This makes me wonder if it's difficult for young asian players to find somewhere they feel included and welcome ? This is in and around Leeds which is a very diverse area ethnically.
im going back early/mid 90’s Played Sunday league throughout up until last 7/8 years even that was for a Asian/black team. i don’t get when people say they don’t see any Asians playing...all I see is Asians playing. Game at that level is ****...if it’s racist at the top...how easy is it to talk and behave **** at grassroots level
Thing is I've not seen Asians kids playing from U7's onwards for the last 6 years and that's across 3 different leagues my son has played in. Main reason I'm saying this is because I really do want all kids to get out there and play any sport but especially football as it's great for their physical and mental well being. Personally I think there is a problem at grassroots level in the lower age ranges. The club my son currently plays for seems to be very good, they run many teams across all age groups for both sexes and have excellent facilities. There are many Asian families living within 5 mins drive of those facilities, as yet I've not seen any Asian players at the club ?
I really don’t know mate...but I dont believe it’s because Asians kids prefer IT couldnt think of anything worse Go to places like Bradford and there are whole leagues full of Asian teams...the team I played for in Huddersfield was the only Asian team in Hudds. We played in amongst lots of racism...maybe that puts people off, I dunno. Why I won’t believe it’s solely because Asians aren’t bothered is because the relative percentage will be the same as the white kid or black kid that’s isn’t bothered....so I don’t think it should be put down to culture. There's defo lots n lots that love the game and kick footballs all day n all night.
