If the takeover is a biggie, then ship Grigg out. Paul Cook may still be a good shout for manager for the level we are at though.
Didn’t the unwashed sack Chris Hughton after he got them promoted back to premiership, that is a lot worse than if we sacked the dinosaur off now
Good post mate. The thing is,that any manager who might see dropping down to the third division as beneath him, knows that if he gets it right on the pitch.....which,after all, is his forte....in due time, everything else will be in place to take on the PL. It's my opinion that we are almost unique in this country,in being an underachieving club where very little capital has to be found to be able to compete at the top level. Ground,Academy,Facilities,Fanbase are all in place......negligible further investment required in infrastructure. So,someone coming in knows that, provided he has an adequate transfer budget, and he gets it right, there is nothing that can hold him back. For example,Burnley,a club I greatly admire, and which is also on the market,do not have the potential to cash in on PL status in the same way we do,and an intelligent prospective manager will be well aware if there was to be a comparison. Someone prepared to buy into the longer term, and to be guaranteed the time, with a contract weighted for the future achevement of success, could see us a really attractive proposition,if the new owners are the right people for the job and he,and they, are on the same page.
I get what you mean but I watched England last night playing a similar formation to the one we play (3-4-3) and it was almost unrecognisable to how we play. With the ball, they often got 5 men in the box and one on the opposite flank waiting for any stray ball coming out. Without the ball they always had 6 men and sometimes 7 behind the ball. The two central midfielders constantly covered each other dropping in as the other went forward. I reckon there’s nothing wrong with the formation it’s the players we have are not good enough to play it effectively.
100% this. Its a formation that is ultra defensive or ultra attacking depending on the players at the disposal and the nature of the game itself. We haven't got the players but all we are lacking is the creative spark in midfield and a goalscorer with pace up front or wide
That's probably spot on, I kept counting the England players last night because I couldn't believe how many they got forward.
Unfortunately there is nothing ‘ultra’ about any aspect of Phil Parkinson’s management or personality!!
For me, he has been extremely lucky with the results to date and I'm even more surprised we have not been turned over more than the Portsmouth game. Any team that plays a bit will score against us, We have sat back too many times this and last season and paid the price.
Exactly a good manager recruits players to play the system he wants or finds a system to suit the players he has Parky has not done either of these things
