    Agreed

I was just specifically answering the suggestion of Hull and East Riding Council closing shops that they are not allowed to close.

B&M's and home bargains supply various articles of food, drink, medication etc, which are far cheaper than say Tesco's,Asda's and Morrison's etc. Some people rely on these type of shops to suit their financial needs???

Sad that legislation and rules seem to override or even replace the bleedin obvious

I'm with balkan. Chuck out the rule book, the catchy phrases, we need a massive "Stop Been ****s" campaign

I don't think it's those sort of items people are complaining about. It's just that you can go to Home Bargains, pick up a tin of beans, then buy a whole load of non-esential items, while shops that only sell these non-essentials aren't allowed to open.

With all due respect, you can go through the same procedure in Tesco(tin of beans,non-essential items etc).

You can't, Tesco have sectioned off their non-essential items and are just selling essential ones.

One Tesco sectioned off the non essentials section with cases of Corona. Which went down well.

I've no idea how it is in store, or what are classed as essential, but I've just clicked things at random that I don't think are essential, and it seems you can order on line and click and collect.

Surprised Twitter wasn't in meltdown, which it seems to be daily, with outraged, disgusted people saying how they had been traumatised by this.

You can order anything online from anyone, it's not really affected by the lockdown.

Depends, all my customers are independent menswear shops and almost all of them are still trading online to some degree.

Obviously it's not practical for all shops to sell online, but after the last lock-down, even my most technophobic customers created some sort of online presence.

Thats fine OLM if regulars know where to find them. But being on line is pretty pointless if you're on page 4346 of Google... unless you want to pay for website promotion.

If I opened a shop in Hull today, I could promote it online directly to 50,000 residents of Hull immediately, without spending a penny.

You don't have to be Amazon to get a message out online, particularly if you're targeting a specific location.
