We football fans react to our last result, Stoke saw us give Bruce time, Norwich and we wanted him out, WBA give him an extra week. Short and business, well good business, does not work like that and the clubs you see go into turmoil do so because of knee jerking, Short is not a knee jerker.

When Quinn took over we needed him like never before. His main strengths were just what was needed, passion, commit ment a fan like us who cared. Sadly those qualities are also his downfall because we now need, and have for some time, a cold business head, a head that still cares but that can separate emotion and passion from good sound commercial sense, Short brings that.
Bruce and his future, IMO, are already decided and probably were around the time the window shut and that is why that extra few million never came for those extra players, the pieces for Short to take over were not quite in place so on the surface nothing happened, behind the scenes a lot was happening. To us it was vital things were done in the summer, to short it is more important that things are done right, a few months is nothing in his world.

Short could not lose, if Bruce turned it round and we had set off at a pace, sitting 6th in the table like last year he knew and we, if we are honest know, that we would be 6th not because of Man U type football but through some OK football and some luck. That would make us a better propersition for the new manger who would be coming in but if we struggled, like we are, we would still have that new manager for Christmas with cash to spend and a good squad to build upon.

The Gyan move typifies things to me, to us fans we lost a striker when we need one, is that how Sort saw it. He saw a good asset that for whatever reason was not performing, in one move he could safeguard that asset, loan deal, remove it from the squad and save his wages but bring in 6 million to replace. Emotion no, good solid business sense yes.

Of course we also need some emotion to go along side this cold business sense, Short has that and he also has Quinn, a man I believe he likes and respects, to continue with the passion. We wanted a multi billionaire to take over and we now have one and IMO one who does have the ambition to move us on,

I think Bruce is on borrowed time and probably knows it, a new manger will come in but unlike in the past and a scramble to see who we can get, IMO, it will be different. Short will have identified who he wants, will know the name and why he wants him. He will now, that he is in place, go out to get him and we wont see a quick sacking of Bruce with Bally moving up in a caretaker role. It will be more like when Hughes left City with his replacement in the stands. Time will be secondary to Short, getting the right man will be everything, that would suggest to me that its not MON or Hughes, both out of work so a quick change could be done.

Now all of this could well be bollocks and we could have Maclren in next week, I just doubt it and think that after all our in fighting, Bib’s and BoB’s we will again simply be SAFC fans, united and happy.

Wonder if Bruce sleeps better than you Syd?

As for Short and a new manager, i'm not sure...

A big name manager will want 2 things...

    1. Guarantees of a big wad of cash to spend on his players of choice.
    2. A large salary for himself.

Not sure just how forthcoming ES will be on either of these, so we may be stuck with Bruce for a while (who knows) hopefully he'll turn things around, and there will be no need..

Sleep is a curse mate, lack of sleep saw me in bed at 9 last night, could not stay awake but that saw me wake at 1 full of beans. Now its 3 and I know it will soon be back to get a few more hours, still Osca is sound.

The new manage, well it depnds on what Short is after, to me a MON or a Hughs would be Bruce again, very good solid managers who have OK records but not OK enough. Big salary will not be in the City or Chelsea area but will see off those around us. I cant see us paying 35mil for a Carol or 100k a week in wages but I can see a decent splash in January.

Bugged if I know what’ll happen & when. It seems to me that everyone’s opinion is a bit like the weather or a good curry. Foul wind blowing before the storm hits or a good **** but knowing just when it’ll arrive is up for debate. One thing I’m sure on though is Short will have a plan B,C,D…..& if they don’t work more to follow all the way to Z. I do agree however with you that the management names mentioned on MANY threads, MoN & MH etc. are a case of back to the future and don’t offer anything greater than what we already have.
