How does "we deserved to win" square with "a let off...?"

Some don't know the difference between being realistic and being optimistic.

As a fan, it's essential to be balanced. Criticism is more than fair when teams don't play well and tonight falls into that category, even if the end result was a win.

We're not entitled to think everything is amazing all the time and criticising doesn't mean for a second that somebody likes the club any less. Nobody decided that, it's just something stupid that people assume.

For christ's sake, we sing a song that says we're by far the greatest team the world has ever seen and it's not meant to be taken literally.

People need to not take criticism of the team so personally and then race out the blocks when the situation changes. Some are so desperate to point out how wrong people are, they ignore the pragmatism of the point. Just because it's Hull City doesn't make it infallible. If a player doesn't play well and somebody points it out, that's fair enough because the management have probably spotted the same thing (maybe. Probably. Maybe...) and that's realistic. If the team doesn't play well and we win, it doesn't prevent anybody saying anything.

We were **** by our own standards, they were ****ter. But they're still professional footballers, you give them an inch and they'll take it if they can.

Because 2-0 flattered us in the end and Harrogate weren't really far from us performance-wise in my opinion and had a couple of chances of their own.

    Simple.

Nah Steve, if you're critical, it means you don't support the side.

It's become like social media - you're either at the one extreme or the other and no middle ground is allowed.

It's weird how we can play well and lose and everybody applauds the team, yet we can play poorly and win and people get jumped on for criticism.

Actually, it's not weird, it's habitual from City fans.

He criticised the validity of my support, so no, I won't 'give it a rest', Chazz.

Gatekeeping support needs to be stamped out. It's ****ty as **** practice and can cost your club from actually getting a fanbase long term if you push people out because they aren't as massive a fan as you.

If the best team on the night wins is it a let off?

Only a Sith deals in extremes. When you consider that line, it's apt in most sections of society.

I've seen us play worse and win. I've seen us play really well and come out empty handed (Spurs at home with Ramirez getting sent off springs to mind). It happens, it doesn't devalue people's opinions or change the quality of the game.

We all want City to win, but as a bare minimum we want them to put in a certain standard of performance. Tonight was below the standard I would personally expect of a top end League One club playing a League Two club in it's first season in the football league.

That's also credit to Harrogate, by the way, they knew what they were doing and stuck to their gameplan.

As previously said - both teams played ****e. We played slightly less ****e. Both teams could've scored a couple. We did. End of. We took our open play chance and then score a penalty.

In terms of how close the sides were, it was a let off. They were as likely to open the scoring as we were in my opinion.

I feel like the word 'opinion' is getting ignored in all of this...

Like a lot of City fans, then. I guess the 5,000 or so season ticket members are the only 'real' fans then, are they? Is there even 5,000 now?

Hey, ex-pats out there! You aren't fans, you haven't been to the KCOM for ages! What? You live in another country? So what!

Hey, those of you out there who financially can't afford to go - you aren't real fans either!

Got physical problems that stop you going? NO EXCUSE! You're not a real fan.

I repeat - Gatekeeping support needs to be stamped out. It's ****ty as **** practice and can cost your club from actually getting a fanbase long term if you push people out because they aren't as massive a fan as you.

Your opinion is fine, the fact is we scored and they didn't. We were the better team, however it's dressed up (less ****e et al) so I don't consider it a let off whatsoever.
