I listened to a few scientisty guys yesterday and all saying its a colossal development and if data released in two weeks backs up claims, and as they said no reason not to, it'll be life changing in a positive way. People just need to be patient, sadly something many don't seem capable of

It’s all good news but here in Northampton we ran out of Flu jabs in October such was the demand, more in stock now. They can be stored in a normal fridge, when you think the Covid jab has to be given in two doses and stored in dry ice, we really need some of the other trials to come through and be approved.

They will roll it out to the elderly in care homes first which I understand but the sensible approach would be to give it to those more likely to carry and spread. Private clinics will deplete supplies giving extortionately priced private jabs.

I don’t mean to sound all doom and gloom but the average person will still be waiting in a queue in 12 months time. Hopefully this is just a breakthrough to more developing a vaccine.

On the flu jab, if you catch the flu, then on top of that catch Covid you’re twice as likely to die.

The Oxford vaccine is not too far away from being at the same stage as the Pfizer one and that also seems to have a great success % in old people. That is ok stored between 2 degrees Celsius and 8 degrees Celsius.

That seems to be the one that would really pull us out of the **** and cheaply.

One thing about the Pfizer one. Whatever it costs to get these things into people will be nothing compared to the financial cost of another month of lockdown to the economy. It will get sorted.

To respond directly to the question: no, not really. All the pharma groups have been racing to get something out first, as first to market could take the lions share of potentially huge profits. Pfizer have actually rushed out their announcement to be first. The idea they'd hold on to scupper Trump when profit is at stake seems far fetched to me.

The Oxford/Astra Zeneca group is supposed to be only a few weeks behind, and if theirs works as well it could be cheaper and easier to manage. And there's at least one other supposed to be close to publishing initial findings.

So it depends where they see the profit. Glad the vaccine seems to be viable but the timing of the announcement seems at least interesting.

If you are going to post facts please add a spoiler alert so those of us who prefer unsubstantiated opinions (i.e. all of us) can avoid reading this tedious bilge. Unless it supports what my guts tell me, then its ok of course.
