Nope you can take proscribed drugs legally if you have an accredited Therapeutic Use Exemption - see Bradley Wiggins use of TUE's as a perfect example pr imperfect example from another pov ..
But that's not what I said. I said it being prescribed by a doctor (for therapeutic reasons), is not going to get you off. You added "accredited Therapeutic Use Exemption". That's when you are prescribed a medicine and then have to go to WADA to ask for the exemption, in advance. For those who were already taking a prescribed med that later on gets banned, you cant ask for an exemption if you are not constantly watching for every thing on the list that they keep adding, and the fact it's therapeutic won't save your ass, Sharipova couldn't ask for a retrospective Therapeutic Use Exemption WADA for a while had a real hardon for banning Russians after the doping scandal, even ones who never tested positive, until they were slammed into reversing it and allowing them to compete under no national flag, there was a lot of politics and corruption behind that. Doping in sports is still rife, the best cheaters are always a few steps ahead of the game, its possible Sharipova was using that therapeutic drug for performance, and she would then have been getting away with it for a whole decade
well you should have mentioned TUE's to make it clear i was just making it clear for others you can take performance enhancing drugs & legally compete . The Melodinium thing was quite funny as WADA banned it despite finding no evidence that ir was performance enhancing . The reason for banning it was they realised thousands of elite athletes were taking it for supposed heart problems and they came , almost certainly imo , that it was in fact being prescribed because it did or was believed to improve performance .
I remember Fergie describe it. All frazzled, hair tossed and glassy eyed and confused "we just kept attacking"
