With us only having two CMs, the wide players were required to work hard. Not saying Salah doesn't, but Jota (and Mane) work harder.
we made a huge error midweek in our subs. We waited to 65min to take off henderson, jota and robertson. Jota already got a knock. it was already 5-0 we waited to 82 mins to take off taa and wijnaldum. this left mane and salah on for 90. Now not everyone can take a rest so there is a case there that we targeted the full backs etc. Lets look what the weekend then tells us. a) we dominated the chances not possession for 35mins. We deliberately set up to deny city good space and left the ball to their cbs. we set up to cut rodri off and negate KDB. b) henderson and wijnaldum failed in thier discipline once in the first half. Henderson ran off up the park vacating midfield pressing and wijnaldum ran past KDB to close down wide as mane didn't bother getting back in. this one moment created the space KDB never got again in the game. right in the middle in front of goal. the reality is for the rest of the game they were pretty limited in their options. c) we improved possession second half but lost all ability to close down as the team faded and faded badly. We subbed firmino who should be the fresher of the 4 and left the others on. By the end all 3 were utterly gone. We were basically unable to string 2 passes together from 70mins onwards but refused to make a 3rd sub for fresh legs once taa went off. in short we used up mane especially on defensive duty. theres a clear case to say that mane and salah should have had the feet up much earlier in italy with city in mind but we would be robbing one area to boost another given the midfield issues we have. In the end we are missing 3 players. The CB is no issue. (now matip is back) but taking out fabinho and thiago imo means that klopp feels the 4 forwards is the best way to go right now. the issue is the space this greats around the midfield two that two forwards have the close down. long term this 4 forwards stuff is only good for teams who want to defend only. We need to get the 3 back in midfield.

Matip and Gomez are both guilty of this. It's almost like they're passing it out without looking expecting one if the CMs to be in ther hold on ther edge of the box.

Yeah, meant we've had a lot for this point in the season. Not convinced it's down to the demands of the season, certainly not in VVD and Thiago cases.
Villa are a complete anomaly this season so far, that wasn't bad luck that hammered us 7 2 Normally that's a win. Villa last season would have been put to the sword. Everton just got extremely lucky and at the same time took out VVD Neither is really down to us being that much lower in quality than last season, without the Everton thing and the Villa anomaly, we'd have the exact same points only having dropped 2 at City That's a good sign mate
