Our tabloid sports press = ‘Everything that gets remotely close to Liverpool must be criticised and ridiculed’ The fact we are getting criticism (especially very ill informed, inaccurate criticism) is a sign of how well we are performing. The chances of us mounting a title challenge are still remote, but our form isn’t a flash in the pan either. Europe is a very realistic target, just in time for crowds to return.
Well here you go chaps - though they’re dyed in the wool not allowed to show any bias (hence one of the reasons I go to them for news), I *can* tell you that the sports editor at Reuters is a Saints fan. So perhaps we should just all go there.
Rod Liddle isn't a journalist, he writes opinion pieces. Which means he just spouts off any old BS that comes in to his head. Actually researching the topic he is giving his opinion on is entirely optional. Opinions are just that, opinions. To have an opinion you don't have to be knowledgeable on the subject on which the opinion you are giving. Most people don't, but think they do. I'm guilty of this. Next job for someone who write opinion pieces when they leave the media is Prime Minister. So today you are slagging Rod Liddle off, tomorrow he may well be Conservative Party leader and candidate to be your MP.
To be fair I prefer the media to write us off and/or largely ignore how well we've done over the last year. Too much attention and praise then it's easy for the players to drop their levels. I hope Ralph uses this as motivation for the team.
It is an opinion piece, yes, but opinion pieces should be subject to fact checking too. They’re not though, and that’s wrong. And I’m slagging Rod Liddle off because he’s a thoroughly unpleasant character. Nothing to do with his opinions on Saints.
Rotator cuff injuries are a common goalkeeping injury, according to my wife’s physio. She is recovering now. The things you find out after 48 years of marriage. I thought she had been a snappy winger.
I used to live in Ivybridge when I was a wee nipper back in the 60's. My Dad was stationed in Plymouth
Liddle is an obnoxious bastard, or at least he is happy to be seen as one. But he’s a good writer, ascerbic, witty, rarely fails to get a reaction; his editors won’t be worried what reaction he gets btw. A post bag full of complaints shows he has plenty of what every writer craves; readers.
Well I stopped reading his diatribes long ago, because of all the factors I mention. I only read this poorly thought out piece because it was about Southampton.
Yeah, I don't seek him out. But I occasionally buy the Spectator, because I like my lefty sensibilities to be challenged occasionally. He's usually the best writer in it. Not much competition, granted. Intelligent Conservatism is a bit of an oxymoron. Still, credit where it's due.
As you chose to ignore my last post on this, I’ll be kind and give a final warning. No politics on this thread please. Next one gets their post deleted and a thread ban.
I didn't choose to ignore your post, I didn't see it. I don't always remember what thread I'm on, when responding to notifications. A bit like holding conversations in real life, it's the most natural thing in the world to drift off topic. I'll be more careful in future.
