Wholly agree. The link I had was NBC, & they demonstrated that Meslier was (correctly) checking the box to prepare his positioning for a cross. If he had saved that og, he'd have had to give up this essential measure & put ball-watching in its place. Ball-watching is Fcukup 101 for any player, especially 'keepers.
It's just not football. I felt exactly the same when I saw what should have been a late winner for Liverpool a few weeks back. Complete guesswork and is spoiling the game. Maybe they can scrap it for the season when fans are allowed back as a sort of welcome back gift.
Hi @milkyboy. Meh....first one I'd lay the blame at Koch. He was wrong side of Dann who is a beast in the air. He should have been better. It's tough for a keeper to keep that out when it's in off the bar. Possibly could have tipped it over but its harsh to really lay the blame at his door. 2nd goal is a worldy. Koch gave away a cheap free kick. 3rd goal I suppose is a matter of opinion. Personally as a defender I would like my keeper to be on the front foot looking to come and take the cross. It would take some worldy or a freak to beat you from there. Pretty much once or twice a career stuff. If he keeps looking to come for those he will save more goals than what happened today. I wouldn't want a keeper to be super glued to his line like a Paddy Kenny. Its risk vs reward and I'd just prefer him to try and get out for the cross from that area. The fourth is actually the one I think he could have done better. He'll be disappointed at that one. He got the angles right, got out quickly, got a good hand on it but it squeezed in. If you look at the replay, watch Cooper break the line, leave a gap, play everyone inside and leave Ayew in 6 or 7 yards of space in front of goal. Meslier actually had a good go at rescuing the situation.
Sadly many on Twitter have already started laying into his performance, just two of the click bait news sites linking to twitter comments, I'll say on here I think he could have done better and I'll stick by that but I don't understand why we destroy our own on social media (good point by WJ and yourself though regarding the OG). https://www.footballtransfertavern....-mesliers-performance-against-crystal-palace/ https://motleedsnews.com/fans-view/...united-fans-savage-one-player-after-v-palace/
My point exactly mate, if he'd been hugging his right hand post and the cross hadn't taken that deflection and was pulled back and a. palace player had scored, he would have been blamed for his positioning. maybe emotions are running high and we look to blame individuals, i hate losing games in that fashion, being cheated and not playing at our best.
Sad mate, just don't understand it, call themselves Leeds fans i've been critical of some of our players performances on this forum i think we all have, I don't do twatter, but knowing our players probably read the stuff on there i wouldn't slag them off, if i did, its just counter productive
Permission to rant please... Alioski, Cooper, Roberts just not good enough for PL. Let's play them this season (we don't have much choice) but can we please sell them for over inflated fees to Championship wannabe clubs next summer.
Fo'fuxake Jammy don't give Boris any ideas I could just stay on the political thread and spout my usual bollox if you want
I like Alioski he works hard good player to come on later. but i agree about Cooper and Roberts, they're just not cutting it
What I like about Alioski is he never sulks or speaks out of turn about his limited appearances and he enjoys himself when he plays, he gives it 100% I think I would prefer to sign a dedicated LB and allow Dallas to leave before Alioski, I guess Dallas being cover for RB makes him more valuable to Bielsa
I’d like to see llorente get fit. I’m not sold on either Koch or Cooper Defensively at this level though have to say, the way we play our centre halves are going to get exposed more than most. thought struijk looked really composed in possession today, but the dm role is all about reading the play and positioning, and it’s tough to expect a young lad to just drop in seamlessly... again llorente would hopefully make a difference covering kp.
Agree about Roberts, sadly. He was average for the Championship, so what did we expect? Jury out on Cooper for me. Big decision time when Llorente is match fit, which may relegate Coops to backup CB. Disagree about Alioski. Doesn't get enough starts to establish consistency, so can't blame him for that. Thought he did an excellent job today. His primary objective was to mark Townsend out of the match. He did. Didn't realise myself until he spent time on the right instead of the left, following him. If we got good offers, I'd bite your hand off for Roberts, ensure we got CB cover for Coops then flog him. Alioski, I'm honestly not sure about.
