So, I have had a look at the statistics of the Norwich v Man United game, according to the Telegraph. It suggests that the game was much closer than you would expect a game like this to be. Shots on Target 9-6 Shots on Target 8-7 Corners 10-3 Fouls 9-6 Offsides 5-1 Possession 56-44 I don't want any Man United or Norwich fans arguing, but does this suggest Man United were poor, as some fans are suggesting, or Norwich were good?
I'm quite wary of statistics especially the BBC ones I've been to games and their stats are totally wrong personally I think Mark Lawrenson does them, the OPTA stats might be worth looking at. As for the game I think we were up for it against United. We're been giving it 100% in all games with exception of the West Brom match.
The only stat worth its weight in gold is, how many goals scored. But yes Norwich did play very well, and did deserve a point out of the game. Good luck and hope you lot stay up
I think a fair analysis would be that Man Utd were a bit below par and we were, unsurprisingly, well up for the game, especially given United's last couple of results
I personally can't believe nobody anywhere has mentioned the fact is blatantly should have been a goal-kick and not a corner that they scored their first goal from on Saturday. It was clear as anything that Rooney headed it out, all our defenders knew he had but the ref gave them a corner for some reason. Robbed again!
TBH, Corner or not, you cannont allow any team (let alone Man U) to win 3 headers in your penalty area. Somebody HAD to make a clearence. This is being very harsh on them though as they had defended brilliantly for over an hour at that point.
And just in case anybody has been on the moon and not seem much of the game, I have found this. http://www.soccer-blogger.com/2011/...d-vs-norwich-2-0-highlights-2011-goals-video/ Full sky highlights (extended - 23 mins) on third vid down.
Utd weren't as sharp as they can be, but people seemed to ignore the fact that Lambert had organised the team superbly, which made us incredibly difficult to break down and the harder they tried to bring more and more players into attack, the more open they left themselves which we almost exploited perfectly. A few training ground exercises on the killer final pass and we will win several games like that over the course of the season. Lambert has developed a way of playing that is making us much greater than the sum of our parts. I though we were fanatastic much to the chagrin of the utd fans I had the misfortunate to sit next to.
There is only one statistic that matters, and thats goals. But its not your fault if United didn't play to their full potential or had a full squad out so nobody can hold that against you, so full credit for giving them a scare.
Ultimately Guru is right, it is goals, but for me the performance for a team that has a lower weekly wage bill than Rooney alone was what really counted, it showed that we can compete and if we keep performing at that level, there will be no problem staying in the PL.
Indeed, one great example of how well we defended was in the move that led to that corner, when Rusty had Rooney in his pocket so much that England's best striker could only head it straight out for a goal-kick....
