Grant McCann is hoping Hull City can enjoy a good run in this season’s FA Cup.

The Tigers’ FA Cup campaign begins with a first-round tie at home to fellow League One side Fleetwood Town tomorrow.

McCann’s men reached round three of the League Cup earlier in the season, beating Sunderland and Premier League newcomers Leeds on penalties before succumbing to West Ham.

And while the league may be the priority, the boss is keen to create more cup memories.

“We want to try to have a decent run in the FA Cup, just like we did in the League Cup,” said McCann.

“We know it’ll be a tough game but we’d love to have a nice run in the FA Cup.

“It can be a really good confidence booster to have a good cup run. Some of the players who haven’t been playing might get an opportunity and you get to see them.

“It’s disappointing there are no fans this year, in the cup and the league. It’s frustrating.

“But it’s an opportunity for us. We’re at home and we want to try to get into the next round and see where that goes.”

Joey Barton’s Cod Army stand in Hull City’s way.

The Fylde Coast club ran out convincing 4-1 winners when the sides met in the league less than a month ago.

McCann knows his side must be better this time around, but insists the defeat at Highbury was a rare off-night in an otherwise strong start to the season.

“We were disappointing that night but what I would say is it’s been a very good start from us, in terms of 10 games, 21 points,” McCann added.

“If we do that every 10 games, then we’ll be in a really good place. It’s probably the Fleetwood game, and after the first 30 minutes at Swindon, where I’ve been disappointed. Everything else, I’ve been quite pleased with.

“They’ve added more experience in Charlie Mulgrew and Tom Edwards at right-back from Stoke. They’re a good team and some of their players know their way around this division and the one above. We’ve got to be ready.

“I learned that night if we haven’t got 9/10 players playing to their maximum then we don’t win. That night we had way too many players off their game and we lost.

“I would probably put it down to us not being as good as the reason why we lost the game. Fleetwood played well on the night but we were nowhere near.

“We want to make sure we have more players performing and that’ll give us the best chance to win.”

    City 3-2

4-0 City or win on pens

Honestly though, not bothered about the FA Cup this season.

Fixture congestion is bad enough this season as it is, I'm perfectly fine with us not bothering this season considering how knackered some of our players look already.

If we're going to have a run at a cup, it should be that stupid Papa Johns Trophy. At least we're a favourite for that one.

He’ll put out a bunch of kids, with some experience on the bench, they’ll score early, 0-2 at halftime, he’ll put on experience in the 2nd half, either get injured or sent off, then concede another with a pointless goal in return for us.
So we lose 3-1 & pick up injuries or suspensions to first team players.

No replays this year is that correct?.
Arsenal and massive club had their own world series about 40 years.

Yep, no replays due to the virus. I think, like the League Cup and EFL Trophy, games go straight to penalties after 90 minutes too.

Grant McCann is set to rotate his side for Saturday’s Emirates FA Cup clash against Fleetwood Town at the KCOM Stadium.

Regan Slater and Hakeeb Adelakun have been given permission from their parent clubs to feature, with the latter also shaking off an ankle injury to be fit for this weekend’s game.

McCann also explained that opportunities would be available for those who played in Monday night’s U23s win over Charlton Athletic, with forward James Scott getting on the scoresheet in a 1-0 win.

The Tigers’ Head Coach mentioned that some players are struggling with small knocks and niggles but they won’t be risked for the clash against the Cod Army, but those absent should be fit for the upcoming league matches.

Lewie Coyle, who has been recovering from a shoulder injury, is back on the grass at the Hull City Training Ground, and is expected to return when the Tigers take on Grimsby Town in the Papa John’s Trophy in a couple of weeks.

We've got another one year option on Jones and he'll get a new deal before the end of the season anyway.

So does Terry play the lads, to protect the senior players, or the senior players to give 'em a kicking back?
