Yes & no. They still don't know what's wrong with me, but my immune system is so shot that I've now contracted shingles. Not fun. :(

Lucky him! My doc told me there was no treatment, apart from painkillers. The odd thing is that I've just finished a fortnight's run of antibiotics..... :)

Doc also told me that you only get shingles if your immune system is fcuked, so look after your dad!

Cheers WJ. A part from the immune system being low, I thought if you had chicken pox in the past that you could get it.

The way it was put to me, shingles is the adult version of chicken pox. Apparently the virus remains dormant in your nerves until it gets the chance to attack you (like when your health is at a low ebb). Doc also says it's not contagious, so you can't catch it. Best wishes to your dad, btw. Take care of him - he's the only one you've got! :)

I had shingles about 8 years ago when my son was a baby. The nobhead never slept so was on about one or two hours sleep a night. I was run down and got shingles.

It was dire. Really painful. Lasted a week. Didn't help that the doctor misdiagnosed it and gave me no treatment.

Someone I know had a kidney transplant, they had an infection. They went to Oxford but was tested positive so they sent him back to Northampton. Before Northampton put him on a Covid ward they tested him and it came back negative. They tested him again 24 hours later and it was still negative so he was sent back to Oxford. He was lucky to survive as he needed emergency treatment and it took 72 hours longer to start treatment.

If he’d died Covid would have been the reason but not because he actually had it. Glad your granddaughter is okay though <ok>

Doc told me there was no treatment for Shingles other than painkillers. Unless it is available & it's just a wee bit too late for it to do any good. Will ask next time I'm up at the Doc's.

Google says there is a medicine available to speed up recovery, but must be taken within 3 days of starting with it.

Evening guys hoping for a better performance on Saturday. Wonder how we will cope with a normal kick off time.
Working for hermes delivering to sub depots etc no home deliveries for me. It is keeping me sane because there is nothing else to do.

Thanks for that, Chesh. Never thought about looking it up, having been to the doctors. You'd think .... :(

Anyway, I don't think it would work on me, given that I've got the rash bigstyle ....

"Most cases of shingles last 3 to 5 weeks. Shingles follows a pattern: The first sign is often burning or tingling pain; sometimes, it includes numbness or itching on one side of the body. Somewhere between 1 and 5 days after the tingling or burning feeling on the skin, a red rash will appear".

Sadly, my oxter went completely numb about a week ago, & got the rash 3 days ago. To give you the idea of the pain level, I already take full strength cocodamols & it's still bloody sore!
