I played a bit of Rugby and even helped to coach a women's team at one time.

That well know saying..'whats the difference between football and rugby & football players, football players pretend they are hurt, rugby players pretend they are not hurt.

There is a much viewed video of Owen a famous ref, telling a Rugby player to get up and stop play acting... "do you think you are playing soccer"

It's weird seeing things from that angle but the ref certainly had a good view for the red card

Grants reaction was pathetic mind, rolling around like he’d been shot. Wasn’t a red for me, but I’d have given the penalty. The player kicked it at his own player ffs and denied us a goal scoring opportunity, not our issue really is it.

Sending off a little unlucky. Though I'd be surprised if their appeal is successful. Like the culprits handball reaction. He's obviously gone to The Steven Taylor School of How to Try to Con the Ref.

Never seen Grant Leadbitter play acting and still haven’t , it was an over the ball challenge which has been shown on another post and the referee could not have been better placed . I am only pleased that Grant was wearing good shin pads or it could have resulted in a broken leg , the lad was off the floor making the challenge so was therefore out of control = Red Card . If you see things differently may I suggest an appointment at Specsavers might be appropriate.

TBF to the referee you can see why he gave it, unfair as it may seem ...

We might not agree with it but this is from the Laws of the Game:

    HANDLING THE BALL

For the purposes of determining handball offences, the upper boundary of the arm is in line with the bottom of the armpit.

It is an offence if a player:

    · deliberately touches the ball with their hand/arm, including moving the hand/arm towards the ball

    · scores in the opponents’ goal directly from their hand/arm, even if accidental, including by the goalkeeper

    · after the ball has touched their or a team-mate’s hand/arm, even if accidental, immediately:

    · scores in the opponents’ goal

    · creates a goal-scoring opportunity

    · touches the ball with their hand/arm when:

    · the hand/arm has made their body unnaturally bigger

    · the hand/arm is above/beyond their shoulder level (unless the player deliberately plays the ball which then touches their hand/arm

The above offences apply even if the ball touches a player’s hand/arm directly from the head or body (including the foot) of another player who is close.

Looks a clear cut penalty to me

It is according to the current rules, as you have shown, does not mean it makes football sense... if the ref/var had to make a judgement call as to whether accidental or not would mean officials had to be better, it is clear cut for them atm.

Similar to the millimetre offside, the officials can say this is fact and no judgement call. As I have said before, the offside line is drawn when a player is deemed to have made a pass, I have doubts that the video can capture that exact moment, so it is not clear cut when the ball is actually kicked/passed. Therefore there should be some leeway... when drawing an offside line by the attacking player. Also what is it that it takes ages for the linesman to put his flag up?

I said we might not agree with it but they are the current laws of the game and by those laws, it was a clear cut penalty even if VAR had been available, so well done the referee.

    • · touches the ball with their hand/arm when:
    • · the hand/arm has made their body unnaturally bigger
    • · the hand/arm is above/beyond their shoulder level (unless the player deliberately plays the ball which then touches their hand/arm

The above offences apply even if the ball touches a player’s hand/arm directly from the head or body (including the foot) of another player who is close.

I'm not sure how they actually do this apart from watching the game in slow motion - but it's an interesting view on the game.
(Edit) They probably use something like this

Interesting maps these, just watching play I noticed the reluctance of Maguire to pass the ball forward, and almost exclusively took the easy option of just returning the ball back to where it came from, I wonder if anyone else noticed this. It stark contrast, O/9 tried to get the ball forward quickly as soon as he could often under pressure, with a range of passing techniques, maybe its just me but I find it difficult to know just where Maguire is supposed to play and what his present role is.
The front three against Ipswich were very poor imo., and apart from Gooch offered very little to open play and even he only in fits and starts. having said that they were all better than Danny Graham who looks less impressive with every game. How he is ahead of Grigg or Diamond beggars belief.

Maguire does a good job of sprinting towards whichever defender receives the ball from their keeper.

Sadly he inevitably squares it to whoever Wyke was supposed to be pressing.

I expect the tactic is to push the keeper into kicking it long onto the head of Bailey Wright.

That's fine as long as both forwards are pressing.

If it works the midfield need to push on and collect panicky misplaced passes.

If it's done properly it's a good tactic and, judging from some of the ropey attempts to play out, something we can exploit.
