Seriously @Victor, I have that wind-up Evel Knievel, Jimmy electronic football, an Atari 800xl computer and a Big Trak. They’re the pension pot! :)

I know exactly how you feel. My dad never talked about his navy days, he would tell to very small bits about his training, uncanny now that we live i the area where he did it all, he was going to come for a week to look around where he trained but that never happened. He would not watch Saving Private Ryan, he sat with me once to start and watch it and after a few minutes he asked me to turn it off.

Back onto toys, I do have my Tonka truck, over 40 years old now.

I’ve read that D-Day veterans like your Dad said that the opening scenes in Saving Private Ryan were the most ‘realistic’ ever filmed for the big screen.....

His request is totally understandable <ok>

My late father in law, who served in North Africa throughout the War, never ever spoke of it and never watched WW2 films....

The wife’s grandfather fought in Burma and was a POW, he would never talk of it either.

Many years ago I worked with a real "gentleman" who served in Burma and was a prisoner of the Japanese , he would never talk of it either but it broke him physically , mentally who knows ( we had a very very small connection ( same regiment and from the same village) . how can you talk to any one who's never experienced what they suffered and could never relate so its easier to say nothing .But the worst thing for those who went through it is not to talk about it .

Loads more in the attic will have to get help from my Grandson. .......... more old newspapers, Hornby train and coaches + rails, Xmas decorations, . Loads of video films, as my wife ran a corner shop years ago. selling
some clothing, and a variety of goods including sweets, and video hire. Still have 2 14 inch T.V up there that can play all these videos. ........ Also stamp albums, and first day covers, ... will have to have a look on them before long. ........ Some things there that were after my Mother passed away. If it carries on like this there may well be things left up there after my day. ........ Even two Satelite receivers. that take in foreign channels.
    ! ! ! ! ! and more. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I’ve got my Hornby train set in the garage, it’s a triple rail set few trains and carriages all in steel, not this plastic crap. I’ve a load of first day covers as well, me and my sister collected them as kids. Got a load of Roy of the Rovers and Tiger comics.

I have a load of first day covers as well, it seemed the thing to do then. I also have all the home Wales rugby programmes with tickets from the golden 1970s era along with the memorable Barbarians v All Blacks game.

I've got a fairly decent stamp album but it won't be worth as much as you lot have as I wasn't around for the Penny Black first day covers <laugh>
