Of late I've been fining out how they have done things in Queensland to mitigate the effects of a second wave. In effect they have closed their border. If Queenslanders had the urge for a holiday, it was in Queensland or nowhere. Anyone entering the State MUST isolate in a hotel for 14 days at their own expense. Failure to comply and getting caught results in a prison term of up to five years. They have been very firm on the social distancing and meeting rules too. And how many cases have they had? NONE. This PM's firm approach has worked wonders and, presumably, made her unpopular with the other States Leaders. The other States have not done well though they seem to have a grip now. Of course the geography makes all this possible but, and I say this with the benefit of hindsight, I wonder how much cheaper, in terms of £££'s and lives, it would have been had The UK Government acted firmly much earlier. I expect little of Politicians and certainly I don't expect them to have fortune telling abilities, but this second wave has been expected, in some form or other, before the first wave had completed it's course. About the only good thing that could be said about our Governments handling of this whole emergency is that it could have been worse. At least he hasn't been as insanely stupid as Donald in the 'Good Old USofA'.
Exactly my point mate. When the government were allowing unrestricted flights, to and from virus infected Europe, we had very few cases. It was actually the airlines who decided to halt flights.
I thought Cameron was a decent PM until he ran, Thatcher reigned in a very difficult time but at least had a plan. Major was genuine I thought. But Johnson is nothing but 'a character' who appeals to some people ... ... I think he's a spoiled little boy who wanted a new toy but soon became bored with it. I'm sure he wishes he could fling it under the stairs and play with something else.
Well, there are definite signs of a change. Since Boris realised he'd become a joke he actually combed his hair before going into Parliament as the nation's duly elected PM .... ... it only took 50,000 deaths, and 2 total lockdowns, to stop him grinning. Another 50,000 and the endless fist clenching might stop
Disagree mate. My son was working in Florida when all this started and got stuck there. When he finally made it back to Italy he was told to self-isolate for 14 days - and the local hospital rang him every day to make sure he was. Another lad in the same position that he'd been working with had the coppers banging on his door to make sure he was at home & self-isolating. Yet in the UK none of these basic precautions were taken.
We had people flying in from China, USA, etc, every day, no precautions ... ... but let's not jeopardise those trade agreements eh.
170,000 from Wuhan province of China alone (where the pandemic originated) with no checks at all. Criminal negligence by Bonko and his cast of idiots in my humble opinion.
Well, I'm sure some of you may remember myself posting about me losing my job due to COVID and being made redundant, with the furlough scheme ending this past Saturday, I was scared that I would now have to apply for Universal Credit, however that won't be the case as I've landed a new job today. A very, very successful interview, I was offered the job there and then. I get my shifts next week after a phone call with the site manager, not even bothered its with an agency, I am just happy to be employed again and working again. From breaking my arm last December, to being on the sick for 3 months, to this virus coming around and placing me on furlough, to losing my job......man it feels good. I know all things considered but I can't wipe the smile off my face at the moment, I'm sure I'll be crashing down to Earth soon but hey ho.....until then!!!
Just got in from work and over 18's with downs syndrome have been added to the clinically vulnerable list and advised not to go out. My daughter is 9 and attends a school with kids from to 20, the Downs Syndrome Association are seeking clarity about the rules. Then my son informed us that his tutor is waiting for test results as one of his close contacts has tested positive. Great start to the evening.
Was reading earlier, Denmark is wiping out it's 12 million mink. Apparently mink is carrying the virus and the boffins are fearing a mutation and a jump that could be adverse to vaccines that are in progress.
