Mark Hughes used to be the master of it. The amount of fouls he won by backing his arse into CB’s was off the scale. Can’t say I ever remember anyone being sent off for it though.
Backing in is totally different to "making a back" where the player actually leans forward so the opponent goes over the top of him. I always thought you were old enough to know such things
If you back in, then you’re risking ‘making a back’ as you gain the foul by the defender being seen to coming over the top of you to get the ball. So the risk is always that the defender ends up going completely over the top of you. I’ve always hated it, as it’s really dangerous, but I can’t remember some of its finest exponents ever being truly sanctioned for it, fouls given yes, red cards? No. I’ve been attending the match for over 40 years mate, so maybe it predates me like
There is a distinct difference between backing in and what Kane has done (3 times in the last two games), one is or should be a foul, the other (Kane style) is when a player actually bends over to ensure the opposing man goes over him.
Including the one where Flopandes jumped onto the Villa player's ankle, squealed and rolled over, and even VAR said it was a pen.
Just reading the article on Manu Arse game, what struck me, Pogba is 27! 27, he's no longer some young kid that one day might hit his potential. No longer at the stage where you can write off his inconsistency as being 'young'. At 27 and as a midfielder he should be hitting his best, he's now reached his prime years and still he doesn't perform like he was expected to.
there's a clear difference between fighting for ground and tipping a player. you will see refs let sly pushes in the back go every week by defenders who are smart enough to know how to look after themselves. most of the time is just a straight fight for the ball that's in the air and you see forwards trying to hassle and defenders with a hand in the back creating space to jump. you will see at least a few times in games a clear push that is ignored before a header. if bother were running for a ball that level of contact would see a lino flagging crazily for a foul. its not given as imo its accepted behaviour to look after yourself. the only frees I think I usually see is defenders holding opponents down with an arm the most dangerous situations are long balls that require lateral movement by both to get to where you see forwards either slow up and plain stop as they know full well they have the defender right where they want him. tipping is certainly a thing but an experience defender will make space to prevent it well before the ball arrives.
Not surprised but Linekar and Murphy both condemned Salah for going to ground easily to win a penalty. Then Linekar tweeted last night that Kane bought his penalty - no condemnation whatsoever. The unconscious racial bias in the media is unreal.
Haha brilliant. I like how the first line is ‘I’m a Liverpool fan....’ showing everyone that he’s not biased.
Shearer was out of the time i'm assuming Diego was referring to . I can't say i remember Dalglish tipping his man but my memory is slightly dodgy .
