But would he? Sure he played here as a striker but it's a bit different when you're ass is on the line as the gaffer. Phillips was great for us as a player, why hasn't he been given any other managerial gigs?
@Smug in Boots has been saying for a few weeks now that he has heard Donald finally wants out and is good as gone so I’m happy in what he is saying and trust his info.
You're right mate, we have no idea how he would set up and play as a manager. We hope anyone coming in would be a bit more attacking and adventurous than Parky, just because it would be hard not to be. However, Phillip's has never managed so we don't know how he would send them out.
As Bill Shankly used to say, football is a very simple game. The players we have all know how to play the game and the objective is always the same. What we're lacking is the motivation and edge that winners need, I think that's why Keane succeeded here. We also need a real captain on the pitch. I'd give that responsibility to Maguire which I believe would improve his consistency and be a nightmare for referees. Too many players never get their shirts dirty and I think Phillips would, at least, change that. There'd be more inspiration and more perspiration ... ... I also believe he'd give inexperienced players a chance. He certainly took his chance didn't he.
There never seems to be a sense of urgency about our play until the last 15 mins if we're behind or drawing and chasing the game.... We should be bossing games and leaving nothing on the pitch but we look slow and lethargic which can only be down to the manager being over cautious...
I noticed a post from TopCat, on RTG, saying that Donald will stay and make a massive profit in 12 months time when he can sell a Championship club. He's one of many claiming that. It's just made up nonsense with no regard to the facts. Let's say Donald wants £37 million. Let's say we lose another £10m income in 12 months. That's nearly £50 for a newly promoted side needing a new squad. And that's if we do go up. The figures are the same if we don't. Donald doesn't have the nerve to cling on ... ... if he's still there it's not because he won't sell, it's because he can't.
Current situation regarding covid has fooked any plans he has....the longer he hangs on the more he looses....hes fooked...lets just hope he's not really really stupid & think he can turn this situation around, were going to make losses for a considerable time to come, need investment to prevent the club devalue any further....hes does not have the funds to sit out the long term project we have now become regarding spinning a profit....its over he NEEDS to accept this for himself & us
This mirrors my thoughts Smug, I don't get this 'Donald moving the goal posts' narrative and reckon it's more likely to be the purchasers in control of when the deal takes place. GOM has said on a number of occasions that Modrox paid around £27m to buy the club. So by my (often flawed) logic, a £37m sale at the right time would have given him a profit, but the pandemic has now changed all that. During lockdown, our outgoings remain the same at around £14m per year but our revenue is reduced to almost nil so I reckon the club is losing around £1m per month. If Madrox are covering that loss, the potential expected profit will reduce pro rata. If they are borrowing to cover the shortfall, and intend to sell the debt as part of any deal the asking price will surely be reduce by that amount. I reckon Donald initially tried to play the market but has been badly bitten and desperate to sell but any prospective purchaser is stringing him along and will strike when the time is right for them.
You genuinely believe that our players 'dont get their shirts dirty'? I can criticise this team for many things, but attitude isn't one of them. The fact they aren't very good footballers is more of the issue than effort.
