Thay obeyed the medical advice and locked down earlier than most. We've seen the same here in Aus where some states have had it under control early by doing the right thing. Some others have disregarded all advice and have extended periods of lockdown.
New Zealand also had the massive advantage of being an island, able to control their air traffic and having top scientists to advise unlike the UK ... ... oops, didn't think that through did I
Let's be fair to Bonko, trying to suppress the virus, whilst ensuring the economy did not tank is a difficult decision or path to take. So yes he was late into a lockdown 1st time round and even caught Covid19 himself. He learnt his lesson... did he ? This time round Bonko again had some tough decisions to make between suppressing the virus and the economy tanking.... again he was late, if we had lockdown earlier, could have made half-term 2 weeks. He has not learnt anything. So now due to dithering we have the virus rampant, a 40 days lockdown and the economy tanking... the worst of all worlds.
This is like a plot in an apocalypse movie where the audience are screaming 'no don't do that, it'll make it worse'. Coming out of lockdown, with the long dark winter months ahead, will turn people into zombies prowling our streets. If the lockdown continues up until Christmas there'll be civil disobedience with flesh eating boozed up creatures fighting with the police. That's absolutely guaranteed and it's truly frightening.
Yes DH4 DH6 here. If the medics were saying a month ago have a lockdown/circuit breaker/fire break before infections start to rise... Bonko obviously decided to go for his 'tiers' regionally. Presumably his chancellor was screaming in his ear along with other tory MPs... don't do it. He was too weak to stand up to them, tried to please everyone and fcuked up badly. If there had been a say 2 week lockdown earlier coinciding with half term (I know teachers are knackered with all the procedures they have to follow) that might worked with regional tiers afterwards... But no, now we seem to have the worst of both worlds. The good news is the medics have got better in saving those who end up in hospital/intensive care, but the bad news is I now know 2 other friends who have 'long covid' its no joke, both in their 40s
The government seem to be in disarray. As soon as the BBC announced the content of Boris's announcement, hours before he spoke, it was obvious that he'd been bullied into it, probably by the eye test fella. It's all really sad and they'll probably mess Brexit up next ... ... they seem like a party at war and that helps no-one.
The virus did not take hold again in the UK until they reopened schools, colleges and universities. These are exempt from the lockdown measures.
Bristol illegal rave attended by 700 people Police say they are continuing to deal with an illegal rave at a warehouse near Bristol. Officers who were called to Yate at around 22:30 GMT on Saturday said up to 700 people were in attendance. Some of the crowd began acting violently towards officers as they were told to leave, Avon and Somerset Police said. The crowd was ordered to disperse and police said two people were in custody. A force spokesman said when officers arrived they "found a number of vehicles and several hundred people" at the site. "Roads approaching the area were closed to prevent more people reaching the site by car but large numbers of people continued to arrive on foot from several different directions," he said. The spokesman added a "number of the people being prevented from entering the premises" became hostile towards the police. "Items, including lit spray cans and bottles, were thrown at police, some of whom were injured but remained on duty," he said. "A secure cordon was put in place by 4am, but it is estimated that approximately 500 to 700 people were on site Power was cut to the building but an alternative source was being used, the spokesman said. "Additional resources have been sought this morning from neighbouring forces to support our response as we seek to bring the event to a close as soon as possible and safely disperse those remaining on site." Get the army in with live rounds and use them
I said to my son, a week ago, that the next stage of the virus would be civil disobedience. It'll start like the riots where it starts small then breaks out in cities nationwide.
If there is a decision to be made, you can almost guarantee Bonko will take the wrong one. If the correct decision is left he will choose right, if it is black he will choose white etc. Those degrees in Greek studies and Latin have not helped the blustering buffoon in being a politician, he procrastinates every time. As New Zealand's prime minister said as to why they have been so successful in their handling of this virus "Act fast, act decisively". Bonko does neither.
Well the most important thing is I’m booked in for me hair on Tuesday, no way I’m being caught out like last time
this is getting very tedious, change the tune or start a thread where you can moan about the tories till your heart's content
I don't agree with all of his views but it's a thread about the virus and the PM is putting us into another lockdown which will be worse than the last. With that one we knew we'd have the summer to look forward to. This time we'll come out to the long dark winter months and more unemployment and failed businesses.
